Tuesday of the Second Week of Advent

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

The day of the Lord is near;
Behold, he comes to save us.

ISAIAH 40:1-11
PSALM 96:1-3, 10-13
MATTHEW 18:12-14

ISAIAH 40:1-11

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

How good You are, how tenderly You care for Your people. The prophet Isaiah speaks words of comfort and hope. Even though we are sinners we will be forgiven for You have the power to wash away our iniquity and cleanse us of all our sins. You have made expiation for the sins of the whole world.

The time has come to put away the works of the flesh and to busy ourselves with the works of the Spirit. The Day of the Lord will be upon us when we least expect it, may we not be caught unprepared but awake and ready.

What perfect and unending joy is in store for those who have heard Your Word and have kept it.

PSALM 96:1-3, 10-13

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

It is easy to believe that the world is going to hell. It is easy to believe that evil has won. The world has never been more divided, those in power more corrupt, there is no longer a moral compass. The world has got rid of sin by denying it. Yet those who are faithful, those who are raising their families in the fear and knowledge of God, those who seek, discover that Truth and Beauty are present in the world and that God is alive and has not forgotten His people.

These are the people who go up to Mt. Zion singing new songs with lyre and harp. They are full of hope and joy. In a world that is full of darkness and despair, the light still shines. God's glory fills the hearts and homes of those who have heard the Good News and who proclaim it by the witness of their daily lives.

Our God lives and He is faithful.

MATTHEW 18:12-14

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

I am that ninety-ninth sheep that constantly goes astray and because I am that sheep, this parable of the Lost Sheep is so comforting.

Thank You, Beloved, for Your assurance to all of us who are weak and so easily succumb to temptation, that our heavenly Father does not forget those who stray and are lost. He has appointed You as our Savior. You are our Good Shepherd who will leave the ninety-nine sheep that are safe and go in search of the sinner and You will not rest until You find the one who is lost. How good it is to know that it is the will of the Father that none of His poor, sinful, weak little ones are lost.
