JUDE 1:17,20-25

My Soul's Beloved, 

Our faith, the faith that is a gift from God and handed down to us faithfully by the Apostles, must undergird all that we are and all that we hope for when our life comes to a close. We are a family. Our faith in the Triune God unites us in the love of the Holy Spirit, the Same Spirit that makes the Father and the Son One. We profess one faith, and this faith is the divine light that directs our entire lives. If we abide in love, keeping this faith that we have received ever before us as our guiding principle and living it out in every season of our lives, we will be sure to navigate the choppy waters of this perilous life. This glorious faith will serve as a beacon and assist us in sailing safely through the storms, the gales, the great waves that threaten to engulf us, and will bring us to safe harbor.

Beloved, help us also to never forget that we are one body in You and that we must pray for one another, not just for fellow Christians, fallen away Catholics, indifferent and lukewarm Catholics, but for all to come to know and love You and be saved.

Remember, my dear friends, what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ told you to expect. You must use your most holy faith as your foundation and build on that, praying in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves within the love of God and wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to give you eternal life. When there are some who have doubts reassure them; when there are some to be saved from the fire, pull them out; but there are others to whom you must be kind with great caution, keeping your distance even from outside clothing which is contaminated by vice.
Glory be to him who can keep you from falling and bring you safe to his glorious presence, innocent and happy. To God, the only God, who saves us through Jesus Christ our Lord, be the glory, majesty, authority and power, which he had before time began, now and for ever. Amen.

PSALM 62(63):2-6

For you my soul is thirsting, O Lord, my God.

O God, you are my God, for you I long;

  for you my soul is thirsting.

My body pines for you

  like a dry, weary land without water.

So I gaze on you in the sanctuary

  to see your strength and your glory.

For your love is better than life,

  my lips will speak your praise.

  in your name I will lift up my hands.

MARK 11:27-33

My Soul's Beloved,

All too often, we encounter people like the chief priests, scribes, and elders who confronted You after the cleansing of the temple, demanding answers not that they may understand but to intimidate, to threaten, to frighten, to bully. They thought they could use their power and the religious authority to silence You. Sadly, we have many of our Protestant brethren who do the same. They lack the fullness of Truth, and when they attack the Church, they do so from a place of ignorance. Anything, even their most well-known and influential pastors teach and preach, will always be suspect because of this ignorance, their unwillingness to engage honestly and with an open mind, and their often palpable hatred of all things Catholic, which can be demonic.

The religious authorities of the day carefully considered Your counter question on authority. They knew that You had caught them on the back foot and any answer they gave would blow up in their face, hence they chose to feign ignorance.  Lord, if we are to be honest, brutally honest, then it would mean changing our whole way of thinking and aligning it to the Truth, but many prefer to weigh their options because of the fear of the personal cost.

Many today are recognizing the Truth and embracing it. They are willing to pay the price and give up all that the world offers so they can live the fullness of the faith in the Catholic Church. Here is where the Holy Spirit makes His home, and where the Holy Spirit is, there is found Beauty, Truth, and Goodness in its entirety. To be Catholic is to be grafted into Your Body, which is the Church with You as its Head. To be one with You is to be one with the Father and the Spirit and with heaven and with every one of its members. Thank You, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for desiring us to be one in union with You.

Jesus and his disciples came to Jerusalem, and as Jesus was walking in the Temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to him, and they said to him, ‘What authority have you for acting like this? Or who gave you authority to do these things?’ Jesus said to them, ‘I will ask you a question, only one; answer me and I will tell you my authority for acting like this. John’s baptism: did it come from heaven, or from man? Answer me that.’ And they argued it out this way among themselves: ‘If we say from heaven, he will say, “Then why did you refuse to believe him?” But dare we say from man?’ – they had the people to fear, for everyone held that John was a real prophet. So their reply to Jesus was, ‘We do not know.’ And Jesus said to them, ‘Nor will I tell you my authority for acting like this.’

1 PETER 4:7-13

My Soul's Beloved,

There is so much great and practical spiritual advice in these verses from our first Vicar of Christ, St. Peter. Lord Jesus, grant me the grace to spend time pondering deeply all he says to the Church and to me today when we listen to this Reading at Holy Mass this day.

We are reminded that this earthly life is passing, and it is imperative that we are not tainted by the world and its sham glitter and glamor. Rather, we are to pray always, and in order to pray well, we are to keep a calm and sober mind. Not giddy-headed, not frivolous, not wavery-minded. True love, as he reminds us, covers a multitude of sins. It does not matter how smart, or capable, or how much I know or how well I know it, so long as all I do is prompted by authentic, gratuitous love, and not self-seeking in any way. Lord, how often I grumble internally even while carrying out my duties. You see. You know, even though the ones I serve do not. Forgive me, Lord. A wonderful way to do my duty cheerfully is, as St. Peter suggests, to consider it as a direct order from You, then it will remind me that ultimately, it is You I serve when I love and serve those nearest, dearest, closest to me, as well as those around me.

Another timely reminder is that we have all been given a gift or gifts to be used in the service of one another and to build up Your Body, the Church. I will be called to give an account of my stewardship when I stand before You to be judged. Help me not to forget or ignore what I have been given, which is to help and to serve above and before all else. And whatever suffering is allotted to me in this life, Lord, help me to unite it with Your great and incomprehensible suffering for me and my salvation, and to not complain, grumble, or grow bitter when I am called to pick up my cross daily and follow You. You will always provide the help and grace I need; I need to cooperate wholeheartedly. Help me, Lord.

Everything will soon come to an end, so, to pray better, keep a calm and sober mind. Above all, never let your love for each other grow insincere, since love covers over many a sin. Welcome each other into your houses without grumbling. Each one of you has received a special grace, so, like good stewards responsible for all these different graces of God, put yourselves at the service of others. If you are a speaker, speak in words which seem to come from God; if you are a helper, help as though every action was done at God’s orders; so that in everything God may receive the glory, through Jesus Christ, since to him alone belong all glory and power for ever and ever. Amen.
My dear people, you must not think it unaccountable that you should be tested by fire. There is nothing extraordinary in what has happened to you. If you can have some share in the sufferings of Christ, be glad, because you will enjoy a much greater gladness when his glory is revealed.

PSALM 95(96):10-13

The Lord comes to rule the earth.

Proclaim to the nations: ‘God is king.’

  The world he made firm in its place;

  he will judge the peoples in fairness.

Let the heavens rejoice and earth be glad,

  let the sea and all within it thunder praise,

let the land and all it bears rejoice,

  all the trees of the wood shout for joy

at the presence of the Lord for he comes,

  he comes to rule the earth.

With justice he will rule the world,

  he will judge the peoples with his truth.

The Lord comes to rule the earth.

MARK 11:11-26

My Soul's Beloved,

Today, You warn us about the fame and adulation that the world gives, which lasts for less than a nanosecond, and the same people who praised us today can turn to rabid wolves the next. You, O Lord, are the only one we can count on and trust, for You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. You also remind us that while we may fool the whole world with a great outward show. Pretending to be who we are not. Giving of our surplus rather than until it hurts. To make a great show of being generous, pious, and devoted to God and neighbor, whereas we are hypocrites within, like the fig tree covered in bright foliage but with no fruit at all. The hungry who come to us return empty-handed just as the fig tree offered nothing to ease Your hunger that day, then we too will be cursed like it was. 

You have no patience with those who deliberately lie and present themselves as genuine when in fact they are nothing but fake. Each time I pretend to be someone I know I am not, I call judgment on myself. No one can keep up a pretence forever; in the end, our real selves will become visible, and when our hypocrisy becomes public knowledge, people will wonder how they could be so wrong about us. 

Unless we are able to live in the world but not become of the world, unless we are ready to stand out and be prepared to call out sin rather than be wishy washy about it. Unless we stand up for the Truth in every way and overturn tables, and call out the moneylenders and the buyers and sellers of human lives, then I will be just like the fig tree.

Just as the fig tree withered and died, so will we for our grave sins, be cut off from You, the true vine, and eventually we will shrivel, die, and be cast into the fire where the flames never go out.

Finally, Lord, we are given the blueprint if we are to receive an answer to our prayers. We must pray with faith, believing that all we ask for according to Your will, we will surely receive. We must be attentive to Your call always, ready to receive Your command and execute it immediately, cheerfully, and well. And above all we must forgive all who have done us injury, from the heart. The measure with which we receive will be the measure by which we have set our brothers and sisters free from the chains that have bound them and us in anger and unforgiveness.

After he had been acclaimed by the crowds, Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the Temple. He looked all round him, but as it was now late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve.
Next day as they were leaving Bethany, he felt hungry. Seeing a fig tree in leaf some distance away, he went to see if he could find any fruit on it, but when he came up to it he found nothing but leaves; for it was not the season for figs. And he addressed the fig tree. ‘May no one ever eat fruit from you again’ he said. And his disciples heard him say this.
So they reached Jerusalem and he went into the Temple and began driving out those who were selling and buying there; he upset the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those who were selling pigeons. Nor would he allow anyone to carry anything through the Temple. And he taught them and said, ‘Does not scripture say: My house will be called a house of prayer for all the peoples? But you have turned it into a robbers’ den.’ This came to the ears of the chief priests and the scribes, and they tried to find some way of doing away with him; they were afraid of him because the people were carried away by his teaching. And when evening came he went out of the city.
Next morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree withered to the roots. Peter remembered. ‘Look, Rabbi,’ he said to Jesus, ‘the fig tree you cursed has withered away.’ Jesus answered, ‘Have faith in God. I tell you solemnly, if anyone says to this mountain, “Get up and throw yourself into the sea,” with no hesitation in his heart but believing that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. I tell you therefore: everything you ask and pray for, believe that you have it already, and it will be yours. And when you stand in prayer, forgive whatever you have against anybody, so that your Father in heaven may forgive your failings too. But if you do not forgive, your Father in heaven will not forgive your failings either.’

My Soul's Beloved, 

From the moment of our own personal conversion, You wean us slowly but surely away from the world and draw us closer to Yourself. All we need is You, and the greater our hunger and thirst for the things that give life, the more You will fill us. In this life, Lord, we know that nothing in the world has power to satisfy us; all is dross, all will decay and perish. You and Your Word alive in us is imperishable and enables us to discern the things that make for life and not death.

Lord Jesus, we thank You for the Word of the Spirit given to us through Peter, Your first Vicar on earth - we are a people that belong to God, and we share in Your Priesthood, Your Kingship, in You were are Your children of God and heirs to the Kingdom of Heaven. As members of the one, holy, catholic church, You founded with You as its Cornerstone and Peter as the Rock, we too are living stones, Lord, and we have been entrusted with a sacred mission. We are to make You known and loved by our lives, by living being unashamed to live our Catholic faith boldly in the public square. Often this comes with discrimination, persecution, and, oftentimes, through ignorance, vile, hateful words are directed at those You belong to. In times like these, Lord, help us not to be discouraged but to praise God that we have been considered worthy to suffer if only just a little, for Your Name's sake. St. Peter assures us that endurance will eventually lead our persecutors to see our good words despite their best efforts to harass and destroy us, and will come to praise and thank God themselves by the power of our witness to You, even in the face of every kind of abuse and discrimination directed against us who are called by Your Name.

You are new born, and, like babies, you should be hungry for nothing but milk – the spiritual honesty which will help you to grow up to salvation – now that you have tasted the goodness of the Lord.
He is the living stone, rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him; set yourselves close to him so that you too, the holy priesthood that offers the spiritual sacrifices which Jesus Christ has made acceptable to God, may be living stones making a spiritual house. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation, a people set apart to sing the praises of God who called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people at all and now you are the People of God; once you were outside the mercy and now you have been given mercy.
I urge you, my dear people, while you are visitors and pilgrims to keep yourselves free from the selfish passions that attack the soul. Always behave honourably among pagans so that they can see your good works for themselves and, when the day of reckoning comes, give thanks to God for the things which now make them denounce you as criminals.

PSALM 99(100):2-5

Come before the Lord, singing for joy.

Cry out to the Lord, all the earth.

  Serve the Lord with gladness.

  Come before him, singing for joy.

Know that he, the Lord, is God.

  He made us, we belong to him,

  we are his people, the sheep of his flock.

Go within his gates, giving thanks.

  Enter his courts with songs of praise.

  Give thanks to him and bless his name.

MARK 10:46-52

My Soul's Beloved, 

The account of the healing of Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, is one of the most touching miracles that You performed. It has the power to encourage us, to teach us perseverance in the face of those who would silence us or are barriers that are deliberately set before us to stop us from encountering You. 

Bartimaeus sat at the side of the road, begging when he heard the approaching clamor of a crowd and quickly ascertained that You were passing by. He had heard of You and of the miracles You had performed, and his heartbeat and pulses raced. Here was an opportunity that he was not going to miss; it would never come again. And so as the sound of the approaching crowd got louder, he began to shout even louder, over and over again: ‘Son of David, Jesus, have pity on me.’ And many of them scolded him and told him to keep quiet, but he only shouted all the louder, ‘Son of David, have pity on me.’ 

He addressed You as Son of David, for he was aware that the Messiah would come from the line of David. His heart was ready. His faith was undeterred by the crowd, and it was rewarded. You heard his cries over the crowd. You always hear, Beloved, even if it is but a whisper, even if it is a silent desire in our heart. How consoling it is to know, Lord, that You always hear us. You stopped and said, ‘Call him here.’ So they called the blind man. ‘Courage,’ they said ‘get up; he is calling you.’ So throwing off his cloak, he jumped up and went to Jesus. Then Jesus spoke, ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ ‘Rabbuni,’ the blind man said to him ‘Master, let me see again.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Go; your faith has saved you.’ And immediately his sight returned and he followed him along the road.

You say the same words to us always, Lord, when we bring our prayers of petition to You, pleading with You to grant us the graces and blessings, the healing and wholeness we ask for not just for ourselves but for those we love, those nearest, dearest, and closest to us, and You say, ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ We pour out all the desires of our heart just as Bartimaeus did when he said, ‘Rabbuni, Master, let me see again.’ And just as You responded to him, You say to us, ‘Go; your faith has saved you.’ 

Beloved, we have received so many blessings from You. So many answered prayers. Forgive us for the many times we have not paused to give grateful thanks for all You have given us especially the most important gift of all, our salvation.

The Son of Man came to serve,
and to give his life as a ransom for many. MK 10:45

1 PETER 1:18-25

My Soul's Beloved, 

The whole of the Good News is You O Lord. You are our salvation, our song, our deliverer, our hope, our life, our peace, our joy. You are the reason we are alive, and in You, O Lord, we look forward to eternal life in union with God- Father, Son, and Spirit. We are free from slavery to sin, which bound us from the instant Adam and Eve fell from grace. We carried that burden from one generation to the next, and the whole of creation suffered because of it. We were created for joy, but it was stolen from us when the serpent tempted Eve, and she succumbed, and she in turn tempted Adam.

Even at that moment, the Father would not permit their disobedience to annihilate us from the face of the beautiful earth He created, though He would have been perfectly justified in doing so. He loves us, and so He turned to You and asked of You what no Father ought to ask of a Son, and You, loving Him, said, 'Yes' for You knew Your Father's heart and how much He loved us whom He loves as His own as well.

The price of our ransom was paid by the Blood of the Lamb without blemish or stain. You became the willing and only acceptable ransom, pleasing to God, that had the power to set us free from slavery. In turn, we are called to receive that freedom and embrace the new life that we have been given by striving to love as You first loved us.

Remember, the ransom that was paid to free you from the useless way of life your ancestors handed down was not paid in anything corruptible, neither in silver nor gold, but in the precious blood of a lamb without spot or stain, namely Christ; who, though known since before the world was made, has been revealed only in our time, the end of the ages, for your sake. Through him you now have faith in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory for that very reason – so that you would have faith and hope in God.
You have been obedient to the truth and purified your souls until you can love like brothers, in sincerity; let your love for each other be real and from the heart – your new birth was not from any mortal seed but from the everlasting word of the living and eternal God. All flesh is grass and its glory like the wild flower’s. The grass withers, the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains for ever. What is this word? It is the Good News that has been brought to you.

PSALM 147:12-15,19-20

He has strengthened the bars of your gates

MARK 10:32-45

My Soul's Beloved, 

The life of an authentic Christian is one of contradictions when we follow Your teachings and example. When we model our lives on Yours and on Mama Mary's first and perfect disciple, we become a conundrum to those who follow their personal conception of God or the ideas handed down to them by the belief system of their religious founders. While some of their gurus may train themselves rigorously to a life of ascetism, it is done by human will and strength.  Most of their followers pick, choose, and adapt these beliefs and practices to what suits them.  

The Christian way of life is difficult; it entails denying oneself, taking up one's cross daily, in every season of life, and following You closely. It means loving our enemies. Doing good to those who hate us. Forgive those who persecute us. Walking the extra mile, giving up our cloak when we are robbed of our coat. Of turning the other cheek if slapped. This sounds ridiculous to those who are ignorant of the Way of the Master. But every Apostle, disciple, and follower for over 2000 years has demonstrated that there is no better way than the Way, for in it is found true joy, peace, freedom, and fulfillment, and leads ultimately to the Kingdom of Heaven to behold the beatific vision in perfect joy forever.

The disciples were on the road, going up to Jerusalem; Jesus was walking on ahead of them; they were in a daze, and those who followed were apprehensive. Once more taking the Twelve aside he began to tell them what was going to happen to him: ‘Now we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man is about to be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the pagans, who will mock him and spit at him and scourge him and put him to death; and after three days he will rise again.’
James and John, the sons of Zebedee, approached him. ‘Master,’ they said to him ‘we want you to do us a favour.’ He said to them, ‘What is it you want me to do for you?’ They said to him, ‘Allow us to sit one at your right hand and the other at your left in your glory.’ ‘You do not know what you are asking’ Jesus said to them. ‘Can you drink the cup that I must drink, or be baptised with the baptism with which I must be baptised?’ They replied, ‘We can.’ Jesus said to them, ‘The cup that I must drink you shall drink, and with the baptism with which I must be baptised you shall be baptised, but as for seats at my right hand or my left, these are not mine to grant; they belong to those to whom they have been allotted.’
When the other ten heard this they began to feel indignant with James and John, so Jesus called them to him and said to them, ‘You know that among the pagans their so-called rulers lord it over them, and their great men make their authority felt. This is not to happen among you. No; anyone who wants to become great among you must be your servant, and anyone who wants to be first among you must be slave to all. For the Son of Man himself did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Blessed are you, Father,

Lord of heaven and earth,

for revealing the mysteries of the kingdom

to mere children. MT 11:25

1 PETER 1:10-16

My Soul's Beloved, 

For those outside the fullness of Truth and Grace, living the life of Christ and preached and taught by the Church You founded is hard, for it goes against all that the world, the flesh, and the devil stand for. Even Christians whose spirit is willing to live the Gospel in its fullness find it hard when they come up against these three, and most especially concupiscence. Be holy for I am holy is the call to all the baptized into Your Body, but, Beloved, this is impossible without the continual streams of grace received from the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Holy Eucharist. This is why, Lord, we who are members of Your Body are not just privileged but infinitely blessed. We can count on grace to assist us, for no one can be holy and imperfect by their own will.

St. Peter reminds us that all that the prophets have said has now come to pass. They longed to see the days in which we live, but they did not. We are here in the age of the Holy Spirit, where He abides, and pours upon and into this Church His fullness of grace, beauty, virtue, goodness, love, and truth. It is the life of the Holy Spirit alive in the Church that makes it invincible against all the dark, demonic powers within and without her that enable her to stand firm. Her foundation is on the Rock, and the wind, the rain, and the storm can try their best to destroy her, but will fail. You, O Lord, will remain with Your Bride until the end of time.

It was this salvation that the prophets were looking and searching so hard for; their prophecies were about the grace which was to come to you. The Spirit of Christ which was in them foretold the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would come after them, and they tried to find out at what time and in what circumstances all this was to be expected. It was revealed to them that the news they brought of all the things which have now been announced to you, by those who preached to you the Good News through the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, was for you and not for themselves. Even the angels long to catch a glimpse of these things.
Free your minds, then, of encumbrances; control them, and put your trust in nothing but the grace that will be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. Do not behave in the way that you liked to before you learnt the truth; make a habit of obedience: be holy in all you do, since it is the Holy One who has called you, and scripture says: Be holy, for I am holy.

PSALM 97(98):1-4

The Lord has made known his salvation.

Sing a new song to the Lord

  for he has worked wonders.

His right hand and his holy arm

  have brought salvation.

The Lord has made known his salvation;

  has shown his justice to the nations.

He has remembered his truth and love

  for the house of Israel.

All the ends of the earth have seen

  the salvation of our God.

Shout to the Lord, all the earth,

  ring out your joy.

The Lord has made known his salvation.

MARK 10:28-31

My Soul's Beloved,

Many whom You call to serve You generously, to give up all that they have for the sake of the Kingdom of God, are afraid to do so, believing that they stand to lose all they have - money, family, status, the temporal joys of the world. These temptations prove too much for them, so they ignore Your call, muzzle the Holy Spirit, and pretend they do not hear or understand. They mistakenly imagine their lives will be greatly impoverished if they lack the temporal goods of the world. They are like the rich young man who left You and went away sad. Their whole lives will be tinged with regret, for they will never know what You would have accomplished through their generous and whole-hearted surrender to Your call.

Today, You say once more to all whom You call to serve You, whatever their vocation may be, whether great or small, that whatever we give up for Your sake and for the sake of the Gospel, You will restore a hundredfold and more. Lord, daily and moment by moment, I am invited to follow You more closely and to carry my cross more courageously. Thank You for the graces You provide through the Sacraments to make this possible. Today, Lord, we pray that many young people in the world who hear Your call to surrender their entire lives to You as priests and religious be responsive and say 'Yes.' May they also be aware that they will receive so much more than they can ask for or imagine. You are a generous God, and You love and will reward a cheerful giver.

At that time Peter began to tell Jesus, ‘What about us? We have left everything and followed you.’ Jesus said, ‘I tell you solemnly, there is no one who has left house, brothers, sisters, father, children or land for my sake and for the sake of the gospel who will not be repaid a hundred times over, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and land – not without persecutions – now in this present time and, in the world to come, eternal life.

My Soul's Beloved, 

After his deliberate act of disobedience, God came looking for Adam. All he needed to do was run to Him, fall at his feet, confess his sin, and beg pardon. Instead, when God came looking for him, and called to him saying, 'Where are you?' Adam, discovering his nakedness, hid from Him. Sin made him conscious of himself because it took his gaze away from God and His creation, and turned that gaze onto himself. His focus had shifted with that first sin; he saw himself differently. 

God asked him directly, ‘Have you been eating of the tree I forbade you to eat?’ he immediately understood the horror of what he had done, and instead of acknowledging his sin, shifted the blame to Eve. This is the woman of whom her had first said to God, our Father, "This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man".But now he turns against her and blames her for his sin. He made no attempt to resist, put up a fight, or stop her from breaking God's command; instead, he allowed himself to be beguiled by her. In fact, it was he who had failed miserably in being her protector and leader, and having failed her and himself, he also failed every generation that was to follow. After each had found someone to blame, Adam blaming Eve, and Eve blaming the serpent rather than themselves, until God would provide a Lamb, in time, to become the scapegoat for all the sins of the sons of Adam,  God said:

Then the Lord God said to the serpent, ‘Because you have done this,

‘Be accursed beyond all cattle,

all wild beasts.

You shall crawl on your belly and eat dust

every day of your life.

I will make you enemies of each other:

you and the woman,

your offspring and her offspring.

It will crush your head

and you will strike its heel.’

God sent the world a Woman clothed with the Sun, for she bore the Son of God, who is brighter than a thousand suns, in her womb through her fiat.

Thank You, Father. Thank You, Mary, and thank You, Jesus, and thank You, Holy Spirit, who made it all possible.

JOHN 19:25-34

My Soul's Beloved, 

May I always be found standing at the foot of the Cross with Mother Mary, the faithful, beloved disciple, Mary of Magdala, and the other Mary. If I am found always beneath Your gaze, my Lord, I will always have the love, tenderness, and intercession of a most loving Mother. You entrust her to me and me to her. She will lovingly bring all my prayers and needs to you. I will place all my prayers and needs in her Immaculate Heart, and through her chaste lips, she will reveal them to You.

Thank You, Lord, for drinking the Cup of Suffering to its bitter dregs. Thank You, for oftentimes raising that cup to my lips so I may have a little taste of it so I can better appreciate the love the Father bore for me and the love you bear the Father and me. Thank You for Your continual and unquenched thirst for souls. It is this thirst that gives me hope for the salvation of those I love. They will be saved by the power of Your Sacrifice. I trust in Your passion and Your Blood. 

Thank You for the Holy Eucharist that sustains the Church, and I pray that soon I will celebrate with joy, along with heaven, as the rest of my family partakes of the heavenly manna.

Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. Seeing his mother and the disciple he loved standing near her, Jesus said to his mother, ‘Woman, this is your son.’ Then to the disciple he said, ‘This is your mother.’ And from that moment the disciple made a place for her in his home.
After this, Jesus knew that everything had now been completed, and to fulfil the scripture perfectly he said, ‘I am thirsty.’
A jar full of vinegar stood there, so putting a sponge soaked in the vinegar on a hyssop stick they held it up to his mouth. After Jesus had taken the vinegar he said, ‘It is accomplished’; and bowing his head he gave up his spirit.
It was Preparation Day, and to prevent the bodies remaining on the cross during the sabbath – since that sabbath was a day of special solemnity – the Jews asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken away. Consequently the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with him and then of the other. When they came to Jesus, they found he was already dead, and so instead of breaking his legs one of the soldiers pierced his side with a lance; and immediately there came out blood and water.

My Soul's Beloved, 

At the foot of the cross, You gave Your Mother to us and asked us to take her with us to our home. In doing as You ask, we take with us not just Mother Mary, but we take You and Joseph as well. For she is Your Mother, Joseph, Your foster father, and they being Your Mother and father, and You being our brother, we too belong to them as their children. 

At Pentecost, the Church, receiving the power of God from on High, the Holy Spirit, who binds Father and Son in love, we are now drawn into the family of God in the Holy Trinity as the Spirit draws each member of the Church into the life and love shared between Father and Son. So just as we call on Mary and Joseph to pray for us, we are privileged to call God, Abba, and the Son of God and the Son of Mary, our Brother, for You have poured Your life, which is the life of the Holy Spirit, in us.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of Love and of Truth and who reveals to us the Truth that is embodied in You. It is in believing this Truth in its fullness, and modelling our lives on it, that we have hope of entering the Kingdom and remaining with You, the Father and the Spirit, together with Mary, Joseph, and all who have gone there before us. Thank You, Lord, for the glorious hope we have at the end of this earthly, pilgrim life.

When Pentecost day came round, they had all met in one room, when suddenly they heard what sounded like a powerful wind from heaven, the noise of which filled the entire house in which they were sitting; and something appeared to them that seemed like tongues of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak foreign languages as the Spirit gave them the gift of speech.
Now there were devout men living in Jerusalem from every nation under heaven, and at this sound they all assembled, each one bewildered to hear these men speaking his own language. They were amazed and astonished. ‘Surely’ they said ‘all these men speaking are Galileans? How does it happen that each of us hears them in his own native language? My Soul's Beloved,

Thank You for giving us Your Holy Spirit, and we thank You, Holy Spirit, for giving us Your gifts. There is an infinite variety of ways in which we are called to serve God, each according to our ability. It is necessary for us to discern with His help what God desires of us and then ask for the grace and the strength of will and purpose to do it. As members of Your Body, Lord, if every one of us, in the Church, lives as You have instructed us to, always holy and pleasing to God and striving for perfection, no matter how miserably we fail, the world would be transformed. We would be the light and salt of the earth, and many would desire to know the true God who walked among us in the flesh in You, and will dine at the Banquet of the Lord in the Eucharist on earth and at the Wedding Banquet in heaven.

Today, as the Church celebrates her birthday, as we celebrate the feast of Pentecost, we ask once again for a fresh outpouring of Your Holy Spirit so the entire Church and every one of her members is re-invigorated and empowered, and each of us begins anew to live out our baptismal vows. Send forth Your Spirit, O Lord, and renew the face of the earth.

No one can say, ‘Jesus is Lord’ unless he is under the influence of the Holy Spirit.

There is a variety of gifts but always the same Spirit; there are all sorts of service to be done, but always to the same Lord; working in all sorts of different ways in different people, it is the same God who is working in all of them. The particular way in which the Spirit is given to each person is for a good purpose.
Just as a human body, though it is made up of many parts, is a single unit because all these parts, though many, make one body, so it is with Christ. In the one Spirit we were all baptised, Jews as well as Greeks, slaves as well as citizens, and one Spirit was given to us all to drink.

JOHN 20:19-23

‘As the Father sent me,
so am I sending you.’
After saying this he breathed on them and said:
‘Receive the Holy Spirit.
For those whose sins you forgive,
they are forgiven;
for those whose sins you retain,
they are retained.’

These are further verses that prove that protestants take from the fullness of Truth only those things that their founders and they found palatable. Sin is the uncomfortable reality of our lives, and grave sin is the cause of all the ills in our personal lives, in the family, in our neighborhood, in our nations, and in the entire world. If, as most faiths do, we make light of our transgressions, then we are doomed to live lives devoid of grace. The more we sin, the weaker we get, and the easier it is to whitewash and forgive ourselves.

Sin does not go away. It must be confessed to a priest just as You require us to. We need humility and obedience to state that we have sinned, often grievously. Confession acknowledges that we wound not just God but ourselves and our neighbor. Sin has a ripple effect and moves out from us to encompass the world. Grace that flows out from us has the same effect.

Your forgiveness of our sins in the Sacrament of Confession, and the joy and lightness that is almost always accompanied by making a good confession, is the experience of almost all penitents. While it is true that we do not need to feel anything for the Sacrament to operate, it is true that we almost always feel joy after making a good Confession. Thank You, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for the Church and the fullness of goodness, beauty and truth that abide in her.

As the Father sent me, so am I sending you: receive the Holy Spirit

ACTS 28:16-20,30-31

My Soul's Beloved,

It is because his loyal friend Luke accompanied him that we have an account of all that Paul said and did when he was brought to Rome in chains and imprisoned to be judged by Caesar. 

From Luke's account, we know that although Paul was a prisoner, he lived in his own quarters with relative freedom and had only one soldier guarding him. He was free to receive visitors, and the Jews in the city came to see him. He knew it was prudent to lay to rest any rumours or gossip the Jews would have heard from their compatriots travelling to Rome, and so he addressed the Jewish diaspora there. He made known to them clearly why he was imprisoned and brought there to face trial. It was not because of anything that he had done which required the death penalty; it was because of the hope of the Jews in the Messiah that he was imprisoned and in chains.

After clearing up any misconceptions they may have had concerning him, he carried out his mission of preaching and teaching the Good News. He wrote letters of encouragement to all the churches he had established and waited patiently and serenely for whatever was in store for him.

On our arrival in Rome, Paul was allowed to stay in lodgings of his own with the soldier who guarded him. It is clear, Lord, that the Holy Spirit was with him, just as You assured him that He would be. Paul continued to accomplish the mission You had entrusted to him, faithfully, until the end.

Grant O Lord, that we too, may not be concerned about anything that men or the world can do to us, but to cling to Your Word, to Your promises, and to carry out all that is asked of us patiently, obediently, and joyously.

After three days he called together the leading Jews. When they had assembled, he said to them, ‘Brothers, although I have done nothing against our people or the customs of our ancestors, I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Romans. They examined me and would have set me free, since they found me guilty of nothing involving the death penalty; but the Jews lodged an objection, and I was forced to appeal to Caesar, not that I had any accusation to make against my own nation. That is why I have asked to see you and talk to you, for it is on account of the hope of Israel that I wear this chain.’

Paul spent the whole of the two years in his own rented lodging. He welcomed all who came to visit him, proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching the truth about the Lord Jesus Christ with complete freedom and without hindrance from anyone.

ACTS 25:13-21

My Soul's Beloved, 

What God ordains will come to pass. No matter what the circumstances may be, no matter how unlikely it may seem, God's purposes will be fulfilled perfectly, ultimately. God's plans work for good every single time, even if we do not see it at the time. The Holy Spirit ensured that Paul finally ended up in Rome, where he was to conclude the mission that You entrusted to him in the Eternal City. All that occurred to him unfolded in just the way that God desired. In Rome, he spent his remaining years continuing to preach, teach, and encourage the Church You founded on Peter. And in the end, he shed his blood as a martyr for You, for his faith, and for the Church. 'The blood of martyrs is the seed of Christians.'

Grant us also the grace to work out our salvation with fear and trembling and without compromise. May we see Your hand in all things and trust the outcome to You, for You know how to draw immense good from every situation. Keep our faith in You strong and alive, no matter what suffering we may have to endure, the daily little trials, the submission of our own flesh, and the yielding of our spirit to the will of the Father in all circumstances. Thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit, who is given to us to enable us to reach our heavenly goal.

King Agrippa and Bernice arrived in Caesarea and paid their respects to Festus. Their visit lasted several days, and Festus put Paul’s case before the king. ‘There is a man here’ he said ‘whom Felix left behind in custody, and while I was in Jerusalem the chief priests and elders of the Jews laid information against him, demanding his condemnation. But I told them that Romans are not in the habit of surrendering any man, until the accused confronts his accusers and is given an opportunity to defend himself against the charge. So they came here with me, and I wasted no time but took my seat on the tribunal the very next day and had the man brought in. When confronted with him, his accusers did not charge him with any of the crimes I had expected; but they had some argument or other with him about their own religion and about a dead man called Jesus whom Paul alleged to be alive. Not feeling qualified to deal with questions of this sort, I asked him if he would be willing to go to Jerusalem to be tried there on this issue. But Paul put in an appeal for his case to be reserved for the judgement of the august emperor, so I ordered him to be remanded until I could send him to Caesar.’

JOHN 21:15-19

My Soul's Beloved,

All those who broke away from the Catholic Church at one time or another to form their own groups were tempted by Satan, and it was pride, like that of Lucifer and our first parents, which made that betrayal of You and of Your Church possible. The Gospels and all that is recorded in the New Testament are the blueprint on which the Church bases her doctrinal teaching and her sacramental life. Anyone who leaves Holy Mother Church under the delusion that they know better than You and the Vicar of Christ and the Magisterium is doomed not to eternal death, but what is even worse, taking others with them.

John Chapter 6 and these final verses that You speak to Simon Peter are clear examples of disobedience and pride on the part of those who have broken away from Holy Mother Church because they consider themselves wiser than the Holy Spirit. The water down those teachings that we must absolutely stake our entire faith on if we are to remain united with You, the Head of the Church, which is Your Body. We thank You, Lord, that many are being led to the fullness of Truth and coming into the Church. Grant that many more will come to know that outside the Church You founded, there is no salvation.

Keep all of us who remain in her and are her faithful children, do not abandon her even if the entire world stands against her. For united to her, Beloved, we are united to You, her Head, and our Bridegroom. Thank You, for Peter the first Pope, for all who have come after him, for our present Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, and for all who will come after him, in an unbroken line, until You return to claim Your Bride. 

You said to Peter, 'Follow Me,' and all who follow Peter uncompromisingly follow You when we follow him.

Jesus showed himself to his disciples, and after they had eaten he said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me more than these others do?’ He answered, ‘Yes Lord, you know I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my lambs.’ A second time he said to him, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’ He replied, ‘Yes, Lord, you know I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Look after my sheep.’ Then he said to him a third time, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’ Peter was upset that he asked him the third time, ‘Do you love me?’ and said, ‘Lord, you know everything; you know I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my sheep.
‘I tell you most solemnly,
when you were young
you put on your own belt
and walked where you liked;
but when you grow old
you will stretch out your hands,
and somebody else will put a belt round you
and take you where you would rather not go.’
In these words he indicated the kind of death by which Peter would give glory to God. After this he said, ‘Follow me.’

ACTS 22:30,23:6-11

My Soul's Beloved,

This passage reveals that St. Paul knew exactly what would set the cat among the pigeons between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: the resurrection. So passionately did the Sadducees deny anything related to angels, or spirits, or the resurrection, whereas the Pharisees believed strongly in all three, that they came to blows among themselves and Paul had to be rescued from their midst. This is why, my Lord, Your advice to us is that we ought to be as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves. The Holy Spirit abiding in us will help us in every difficult situation, giving us wisdom that will refute and foil the enemies of Truth.

What the Spirit said to St. Paul, He says to each one of us who, by virtue of our baptism and our vocation in life, is commanded and commissioned to preach the Good News to the ends of the earth. We must have courage, step out boldly from our comfort zone, and speak the Truth in love, for love alone has the power to conquer the hardest heart. 

Since the tribune wanted to know what precise charge the Jews were bringing, he freed Paul and gave orders for a meeting of the chief priests and the entire Sanhedrin; then he brought Paul down and stood him in front of them. Now Paul was well aware that one section was made up of Sadducees and the other of Pharisees, so he called out in the Sanhedrin, ‘Brothers, I am a Pharisee and the son of Pharisees. It is for our hope in the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial.’ As soon as he said this a dispute broke out between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the assembly was split between the two parties. For the Sadducees say there is neither resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit, while the Pharisees accept all three. The shouting grew louder, and some of the scribes from the Pharisees’ party stood up and protested strongly, ‘We find nothing wrong with this man. Suppose a spirit has spoken to him, or an angel?’ Feeling was running high, and the tribune, afraid that they would tear Paul to pieces, ordered his troops to go down and haul him out and bring him into the fortress.
Next night, the Lord appeared to him and said, ‘Courage! You have borne witness for me in Jerusalem, now you must do the same in Rome.’

PSALM 15(16):1-2,5,7-11

Preserve me, Lord, I take refuge in you.

Preserve me, God, I take refuge in you.
I say to the Lord: ‘You are my God.
O Lord, it is you who are my portion and cup;
it is you yourself who are my prize.’

JOHN 17:20-26

My Soul's Beloved, 

It is the love of God in us, Your love for the Father and His for You, which is also given to all who believe that the Father sent You, that will be the Light that will draw all people to the Truth. What is Truth? Had Pilate recognized that the answer to his question stood right in front of him, perhaps he would not have condemned the One who was innocence itself.

Beloved, I thank You for the Gospel passage in today's liturgy, which affirms and confirms Your Word to me earlier that 'Heaven and earth will pass away, but Your words will never pass away.' We take comfort and courage in this assurance, Lord, that Your Word is Truth and we are consecrated in the Truth.

In the world we currently live in, everything is a sham, a charade, a pantomime—unreal. But because it dazzles the eyes and drugs us, we lose touch with the reality of living a life of authenticity. We stop looking at life as it truly is. Instead, we view it through smoke and mirrors. These illusions dull the sensitivity and awareness of the soul to things that are holy, divine, and eternal. They draw the senses to the flesh, to the material and physical, to our basest desires, and to a hedonistic lifestyle. Such a lifestyle can only destroy both body and soul in this life and eternally. We thank God, our Father, for sending You His only begotten Son into the world, to redeem us, and we thank You, Lord Jesus, for sending us Your Spirit, and for not abandoning those who are Yours to the wolves.

It is Your love in us, the same love between You and the Father that we will reveal to the world as Your followers, Your disciples, as the members of Your Body, the Church, that will draw all those whom the Father desires, to Himself, through You.

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said:
‘Holy Father,
I pray not only for these,
but for those also
who through their words will believe in me.
May they all be one.
Father, may they be one in us,
as you are in me and I am in you,
so that the world may believe it was you who sent me.
I have given them the glory you gave to me,
that they may be one as we are one.
With me in them and you in me,
may they be so completely one
that the world will realise that it was you who sent me
and that I have loved them as much as you loved me.
