WEDNESDAY OF HOLY WEEK - 2021

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Hail to you, our King!
Obedient to the Father, you were led to your crucifixion
as a meek lamb is led to the slaughter.

ISAIAH 50:4-9 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

All who come to You, the Eternal Word, and sit faithfully at Your feet every day will be granted the gift of a disciple's tongue. Imbued with Your Word and with the aid of Your Holy Spirit, just as foretold by the prophet they are able, just as You did, to give comfort, hope, and encouragement to those who are weary.

To Isaiah God revealed all that the You, the Suffering Servant would have to endure for our iniquities. Both these words and all that they imply, suffering and servant, are resisted by the
world yet, You have shown us that there is no way except the Way You walked that leads to the Kingdom of God. How hard it is to offer no resistance when we are called to bear humiliation for the sake of the Gospel but there is no other way to win souls for God. Through Your suffering, You redeemed the world.

When we walk on the side of Truth and Love then no amount of scorn, insults, and torment inflicted on us can break us. You will come to our aid and provide all the strength we need to persevere to the end.

We have this assurance, my Lord, that if we are faithful, You are even more faithful and after this long and painful journey on earth comes to an end, You will receive us and give us a share of Your crown of glory. Let us not be cast down when the world hates us, persecutes us, maligns us, for the servant is not greater than the Master.

PSALM 69:8-10,21-22,31,33-34 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

You warn us that anyone who wishes to be Your disciple must be prepared to endure suffering as You did. The world hated You and it hates all who follow You. Christians worthy of the name are an irritant to the world. They prefer not to have their conscience disturbed as they lie with the devil.

You are our beacon from You we receive strength. In You we are triumphant. Your victory is our victory as well. You
defeated and crushed the Enemy and all who walk on the side of Truth will conquer evil as well as we have seen from the moment that You gave Yourself up into the hands of those who plotted to kill You.

Even if all our friends desert us as the disciples deserted You in Your greatest hour of need, we will not be alone for You will walk with us. Thank You, Beloved, for revealing to us that no matter what we are called to endure for the sake of Your Name ultimate victory belongs to the Eternal Word.

MATTHEW 26:14-25 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

We condemn Judas for his betrayal of You and yet all of us at some point in our lives and even more than once, have betrayed You. He betrayed You for a paltry sum of 30 pieces of
silver and we betray for even less. We betray You out of fear, to fall in with the crowd, to be a part of a sinful, worldly culture, in order for some temporary benefit, or because we are ashamed or afraid we will be mocked, scorned, and rejected.

Judas sat with the Twelve and ate the Eucharist but because he ate it with grave sin on his soul it had no positive spiritual effect on his soul. The same goes for us too. If we eat Your Flesh and drink Your Blood with tainted lips and a filthy soul we eat and drink damnation to ourselves.

Even after Judas heard You lament that it would have been better had the man who would betray the Son of Man not been born, his heart that had strayed a little further from You each day was not deterred from committing this grave sin.

While we might wonder how Judas had the gall to ask whether he would be the one to betray You yet let us not forget that we too have done the same. Unlike him, however, may we never forget that a humble contrite heart You will not spurn.

TUESDAY OF HOLY WEEK - 2021

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Hail to you, our King!
Obedient to the Father, you were led to your crucifixion
as a meek lamb is led to the slaughter.

ISAIAH 49:1-6 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

You did not come to save just the people of Israel but all people in every nation, every tribe, every culture, and every language. No one is excluded and it is incumbent upon us who believe to make You known and loved to the farthest corners of the world. This is our mission, this is the divine mandate given to us by Your own lips and it is not optional.

You are the Word of God which is a double-edged sword and can slice deep into the heart of the most hardened sinner. Ever since the fall, You were called to redeem the world just as we are called to make this Good News of our redemption known to all. You are the hope of all and there is no other Name by which we can be saved.

‘It is not enough for you to be my servant,
to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back the survivors of Israel;
I will make you the light of the nations
so that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.’

PSALM 71:1-6,15,17 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

God created me in love and for love. He certainly does not need me but He did create me, hence I, on my part, must discern His will for this life that I have been given and do it.

I cannot repay the Father for the life He has been given and the joyful hope of sharing in Your eternal glory. This is God's will for me - to make You known and loved by the witness of my life and through my faithful witness no matter how insignificant it may seem in my eyes.

I am called to take refuge in You. To make Your Heart my home. To trust You in all circumstances to keep me safe and to trust that You will always hear and answer me.

I am called to love You with my entire being. To trust in nothing and no one but You alone. To cling to You and hold fast to You especially when the hour is at its darkest and night seems to last forever. Even when I am besieged by the Enemy on every side still must I hold ever tighter to Your hand and trust that You will never let go.

MONDAY OF HOLY WEEK - 2021

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Hail to you, our King!
You alone have had compassion on our sins.

ISAIAH 42:1-7 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

In a world where might is right and power is abused and used as a whip to subdue the weak, God reveals another way. It is a way that is scorned and ridiculed by the world. It is a way of contradiction as God's wisdom often is.

God chooses the weak of this world in order to reveal His awesome power and strength through them. This is best demonstrated in You from the moment of Your incarnation in the womb of Mary until Your death by crucifixion.

You are the Model that God holds up to the world and it is one we must model our own lives on if we are to live forever.

Justice for the nations is granted through You for You are the champion of the friendless, the widow, and the orphan and are full of mercy and tender compassion towards those who have no one to plead their cause.

You are the Word through whom God created the heavens and the earth and gave life and breath to all that lives and moves. You are appointed by the Father as His covenant of love between Him and us, His creatures. You are the light that illumines our life and dispels the darkness of evil and sin not only in us but in the world. You have the power to take away our blindness and enable us to see. You have the power to release us from the chains that hold us captive to sin. You have the power to raise us from death to life.

Because of You, we have hope. Thank You!

PSALM 27:1-3,13-14 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

Too often on life's journey, we are overwhelmed by the cares of the world, the frailty of our bodies, the weakness of our spirit, our lack of fortitude to push through the crushing weight of our physical and spiritual limitations, and then we read Your Word and we are given food for the journey.

The psalms have the power to raise our spirits. They encourage us and assure us that we are not alone. We do not fight our battles alone - You are right beside us helping us, cheering us along, carrying our cross with us, sharing our burdens with us, consoling and comforting us, and providing all the strength we need through the graces poured into our soul through the Sacraments You instituted.

Each time I find the world too much for me let me recall the words of this psalm:

The Lord is my light and my help;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;before whom shall I shrink?

May I hold on strongly to the hope I have in Your goodness and take heart even when the night is long no light is seen on the horizon.

JOHN 12:1-11 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

Our acts of kindness, mercy, compassion, tender pity for those who are weak and vulnerable are like the fragrance that filled the house when Mary anointed Your feet. It is these acts of charity impelled solely by love that will testify on our behalf when we stand before You at the end of our life's journey.

Too often we can be like Judas who shamelessly attempts to hide his greed by a pseudo display of concern for the poor. He fooled no one and neither do we. John records for all time this indictment against Judas, 'He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief; he was in charge of the common fund and used to help himself to the contributions.'

Your response to Judas is a fitting one to all the hypocrites of the world who wring their hands in farcical despair, 'Leave her alone; she had to keep this scent for the day of my burial. You have the poor with you always, you will not always have me.’ We must render to God what is due to God.

The greatest of all Your wondrous signs up to that moment was the raising of Lazarus from the dead, and since he was living proof of Your divine power they plotted to kill him as well since they were quickly becoming aware that if they did not do something to silence You they would lose all credibility with the Jews.

This continues to be true to this day - the world is afraid of the power of Christianity and its radical teachings that can change the world. If the world lived the Gospel values the Kingdom of God will be visible in our midst.

PALM SUNDAY OF THE LORD'S PASSION - 2021

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Christ was humbler yet,
even to accepting death, death on a cross.
But God raised him high
and gave him the name which is above all names. PH 2:8-9

ISAIAH 50:4-7 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

We are overly sensitive to what others think of us and we do everything we can to protect ourselves, our egos. But You show us another Way, a better way - the way of humility.

Unless we make the sacrifice required to immerse ourselves in Your Word and in daily prayer we will never be able to face the world with equanimity when it accuses us with lies born of ignorance of the Truth. If we do, however, You will give us the inspiration and the words with which to counter evil with good and ignorance with divine wisdom.

Like You, and all the martyrs who learned from You we will be able to withstand without flinching, all the persecution, insults, calumny, and mockery that the world and the enemies of truth direct against us.

PSALM 22:8-9,17-20,23-24 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

This psalm written by David describes clearly all that You suffered. One must be familiar with both the Old and the New Testament to see it. The Jews to this day studiously ignore You. Their nation resounds with testimony about You - Your life, Your passion, Your death, Your glorious resurrection, and the effects of it all on the whole world. They benefit from the many pilgrims who pour into their nation from all over the world but they, like the Pharisees, Scribes, and Jewish religious authorities stubbornly and steadfastly refuse to give You any credence.

The Psalmist records his sufferings and torment as well as that of his companions at the hands of his enemies and wove them all into a seamless tapestry. Ultimately all these sufferings would be drawn into the sufferings of one Man, sent by God, His only Son, for the salvation of the world.

But to all who believe, and accept You, Beloved, You give the power and the right to be called children of God.

We pray for the dawn of that glorious day when the nation of Israel together with the whole world will praise You, revere Your Name, and glorify God for You and for the Good News of our salvation.

PHILIPPIANS 2:6-11 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

It is terribly hard to exercise the virtue of humility in all circumstances. When we have inflated egos and a misplaced sense of pride in our own importance we set ourselves up to experience feelings of hurt, anger, and revenge. We lack peace when we lack humility.
You are God and yet You came into the world to give Yourself up into our hands of sinners knowing full well what the world would do to You. Not at any stage of Your short life on earth did You call down fire and brimstone against those who opposed You and plotted to destroy You even though You had the power to do so.

You teach us by Your example that there is no greater virtue than that of humility. It is a virtue that gives birth to every other virtue and makes all we do pleasing and acceptable to God.

The reward for embodying this virtue and manifesting it throughout our life is to receive a share in Your Kingdom.

Whether the world acknowledges it or not the truth is that the Father has raised You high and has given You a Name that is above every other. All must bow the knee to You for only in believing in You and Your Name can we be saved - there is salvation in no other.

MARK 14:1-15:47 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

Trickery and chicanery are the oldest tricks that Satan and his followers have used ever since the fall and fools are trapped and deceived by them. Only those who stand on the side of Truth can hear Your voice, recognize it, and follow You.

Today, as we listen to Your Passion narrated in our churches on this Palm Sunday, recalling Your triumphant entry into Jerusalem we pray earnestly for that day when God's chosen people, the Jews, as well as people from every nation will celebrate Your triumphant return to claim and establish Your rule over the whole world.

Those who were feverishly plotting Your arrest and Your murder were worried about the most inane things -
It must not be during the festivities, or there will be a disturbance among the people.

We are reminded that we must offer You only the very best of ourselves. We must break ourselves and pour ourselves out as Mary did with the alabaster jar containing the costly ointment. You have taught us that it is only in dying that we live. The world teaches us from our earliest age to look out for ourselves and our interests but You show us a better way. It is a way to true freedom.

Judas, bristling with resentment at Your public reproach to him who in truth cared nothing for the poor, sought out Your enemies in order convey to them his willingness to betray You for money. The world is full of Judases who continue to betray the innocent for filthy lucre's sake.

As we listen to the Gospel narration of the Passover meal You had with Your disciples in the upper room, we offer grateful thanks for the Eucharist without which, Beloved, we would have no strength for the journey from this life to the next.

During this solemn night mingled with joy and sorrow, You tell the blustering Peter who proclaims his willingness to die for You, of his denial of You not once but three times. You also indicated that one of them would betray You. Judas actually had the gall to look You in the eye and ask if he was the one and You responded saying,

It is one of the Twelve, one who is dipping into the same dish with me. Yes, the Son of Man is going to his fate, as the scriptures say he will, but alas for that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! Better for that man if he had never been born! Judas actually hears You say it would have been better had he not been born and yet he goes out shamelessly into the night to betray You.

You then instituted the Sacrament of the Eucharist and the Priesthood - for we cannot have one without the other. You institute it here in spirit, on the Cross You would institute in truth.

As the sacred meal comes to a close You lead Your band of disciples to the garden of Gethsemane and taking Peter, James, and John a little further, You urge the rest to keep vigil and pray. Weary with fear all fall asleep while You pour out Your agony to Your Father, saying, Abba (Father)! Everything is possible for you. Take this cup away from me. But let it be as you, not I, would have it. This is how we too ought to pray each time we come before God and make our needs known to Him.

Three times You came to the apostles hoping to find them awake and praying with You but each time they were in a deep sleep. You say to Peter, Simon, are you asleep? Had you not the strength to keep awake one hour? You should be awake, and praying not to be put to the test. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

How often we too find ourselves in the same situation as the apostles we are weary either with fear or apathy.  Again he went away and prayed, saying the same words either way, like the apostles we too have no answer as to why we are not keeping watch and praying as we ought.

Once You identified by the blistering kiss of Judas and arrested events seem to take on a life of their own as one horrific scene succeeds the next. All Your friends have melted into the night.

We then have Your trial before a kangaroo court made up of the high priest, the chief priests, elders, and scribes.  Poor Peter, half ashamed and afraid he follows You from a distance. But no sooner he is identified by a maid-servant he denies You just as You said he would.

They asked, Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?
and You said, I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of heaven. The high priest dramatically tore his robes and promptly accused You of blasphemy, a verdict that carried the death sentence.

It was at this point that You gave Yourself up utterly to the power of the rabid mob who thronged around You. They made jest of You, mocked You, spat on You, blindfolded You, and rained blows on You taunting You to guess who had hit You. In the morning they brought You before Pilate as they had no authority to put You to death only Pilate could do so.

Playing shamelessly on Pilate's fears they got him to pronounce the death sentence but not before he ordered You to be scourged mercilessly. The evangelists make it clear that Pilate knew You were innocent and that the chief priests were jealous of You yet he sentenced You to death by crucifixion.

Even as You hung in agony on the cross they continued to taunt You - the hour of evil was on full display just before the final and most comprehensive victories of all time.

SATURDAY OF THE FIFTH WEEK OF LENT - 2021

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Shake off all your sins – it is the Lord who speaks –
and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. EZ 18:31

EZEKIEL 37:21-28 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

There is no peace apart from You. God promised peace over and over again through the patriarchs and prophets and for a while under David's reign the people of God enjoyed a time of peace. But real, and lasting peace is ours only in and through You, the Prince of Peace and the Savior of the world.

You alone are able to gather the scattered sheep and shepherd us to green pasture, to running streams, to rest. In You alone is perfect peace even in the midst of turbulence, in the midst of the storm, in the midst of turmoil. You are our calm, our rest, our refreshment.

You alone have the power to wash away the filth and grime of our sins no matter how deeply encrusted they are in our souls. All it takes is a word of sorrow, regret, contrition in humility and You wash away our iniquity and cleanse us of every sin no matter how grave or ugly.

We long for the day when You will gather all Your sheep from all the corners of the world and You will be our God and we will be Your people. We will be one flock under one Shepherd. The divisions in the world are frightful and it seems impossible that they can be healed or overcome but You are a God of the impossible and Your Word is true. We believe, Lord. We believe.

I shall make a covenant of peace with them, an eternal covenant with them. I shall resettle them and increase them; I shall settle my sanctuary among them for ever. I shall make my home above them; I will be their God, they shall be my people. And the nations will learn that I am the Lord, the sanctifier of Israel, when my sanctuary is with them for ever.’

JEREMIAH 31:10-13 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

You are the living, eternal Word of the Father, a Word once uttered and sent into the world to accomplish all the He wills. It will not return to Him without fulfilling all that the Father desires. As You have commanded the Word has been preached to all the nations in the farthest corners of the world. Many have heard and have come to believe in the Word that saves.

We were under the yoke of Satan but You foiled the works of the Enemy. You paid the ransom for our sins. You lay down Your life in exchange for ours and received the punishment that was due to us. Raised between heaven and earth, You are the bridge that unites us with the Father. All God's blessings flow to us through You.

We are far from realizing the perfect joy and peace that You came to give. Evil is rampant in the world and oftentimes it seems that it has won. But that is a lie. You have triumphed. Yours is the victory, You have prevailed, You have turned our mourning to joy, and all our grief to gladness. You are God.

JOHN 11:45-56 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

After You raised Lazarus from the dead many believed but not Your enemies. Only God has power over life and death and it the Pharisees and the chief priests were lovers of the truth they would have believed and praised God for fulfilling His promise and sending the Messiah to save His people.

Evil prevails when worldly powers plot and scheme to silence the truth no matter the cost in human suffering. The wicked are so consumed with hate it eats into their entrails and robs them of peace and sanity. The Pharisees and the chief priests were obsessed with putting You to death and as is always the case, they actually began to believe their own lies. Caiaphas, the high priest that year, said, ‘You do not seem to have grasped the situation at all; you fail to see that it is better for one man to die for the people, than for the whole nation to be destroyed.’   He thought that they could prevent the destruction of their nation by murdering You. They believed that they could protect their self-interest by putting an end to Your rising popularity with the people as they envisioned being robbed of their powers by the Roman authorities and the Temple being destroyed if they did not stop You. They would soon realize that their murderous actions would bring about all that they feared and far greater calamity than they could ever imagine.

The hour was drawing near and soon You would fulfill the mission for which You were sent and when it came You would be ready.

FRIDAY OF THE FIFTH WEEK OF LENT - 2021

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Your words are spirit, Lord, and they are life;
you have the message of eternal life. JN 6:63,68

JEREMIAH 20:10-13 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

All the the prophet Jeremiah suffered was recorded in Scripture and it was a foreshadow of all that You would suffer at the hands of God's chosen people, Israel. Evil has plotted feverishly against good ever since the fall of man and woman. The world, the flesh, and the devil are in tune with each other to bring about destruction and death.

But You have overcome the world. To this day all who hear Your voice and walk on the side of Truth are privileged to suffer a little what You endured for the salvation of the world. Those who are called by Your Name are terrorized on every side, they are threatened, persecuted, imprisoned, denied their rights, and false charges are raised against them in order to intimidate them.

Those who appeared to be friends are now enemies and bay for the blood of innocents because those who are called by Your Name are opposed to the evil the perpetrate in the name of their false gods.

The wonder, the beauty, the marvel of all who hear Your Voice and walk on the side of Truth will never lack courage to walk into the lion's den and face death for Your sake and the sake of the Gospel.

PSALM 18:2-7 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

Never was there a time when I cried out to You and You did not reach out , take e by the hand, and draw me out of the pit of terror, anxiety, and fear in which I was drowning.

You are faithful O Lord. You have never abandoned me, even when I thought You were far from the sound of my cry, in truth You were closer to me than ever . You have permitted me to suffer in order to strengthen my faith in You and to teach me that hope in You is never misplaced.

All the difficulties in my life, all the sorrow, all the anguish, all the disappointments have taught me that in You I am always triumphant. Even when the outcome is not as I planned or desired You plans are always better than anything I could envision for myself.

Your Name is more powerful than any other. Demons tremble when I call on You for Your Name has the power to save. Your Name is a mighty shield against the Enemy. With Your Name as my tower and stronghold I will prevail.

Death has no power over me. The snares of the Enemy cannot hold me for I am covered in the Blood of the Lamb and I feed on the Flesh of the Son of God. I am alive because I live in You.

Thank You for this assurance that I have that when I call You will hear and You will always hasten to come to my aid and rescue me.

JOHN 10:31-42 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

When evil penetrates the entrails of the enemies of God they are consumed by a raging madness that robs them of all common sense.

These Jews who wished to stone You to death heard You teach, preach, saw You perform the most amazing miracles that were sure signs that You were of God, and from God and yet now they take offence because You declared that You were the Son of God. They believed You blasphemed without taking a moment to see and understand that the words You spoke and the works You performed were a clear indication that You were God.

When You challenged them ‘I have done many good works for you to see, works from my Father; for which of these are you stoning me?’ They responded that You were only a man claiming to be God but they failed to see that the power You possessed over life and death, over the elements of nature, over the spiritual realm was clearly of God. Your works testified that You were from God but they refused to see it and accused You instead of blasphemy. God Himself, recognizes as His children all who who believe in Him.

We too are often guilty of judging rashly those whom we do not understand. The world does it all the time. Knowing little or nothing of what we believe as Catholics they accuse and condemn us as idolaters. Too lazy, too close minded, too arrogant, too dismissive of the Church and her teachings to which she adheres to faithfully as do her members, they do her a grave wrong just as Your accusers did.

They would have arrested You had You not slipped away and continued preaching and teaching and many believed in You in much the same way as many accusers of the Catholic Church who are sincerely seek the truth find it in its fullness in her.

SOLEMNITY OF THE ANNUNCIATION OF THE LORD - 2021

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

The Word became flesh,
he lived among us,
and we saw his glory. JN 1:14

ISAIAH 7:10-14,8:10 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

How often we make a fatuous show of piety like Ahaz, the great prophet Isaiah is speaking God's word to him and telling him to ask for a sign and he is too great a coward to ask for one because God desires to give him this sign.

When God gives us signs we have to sit up and take notice. We have to discern what it means and act accordingly.

Even though Ahaz refuses to ask for a sign, the prophet reveals it anyway. Despite our stupidity, God pities us and does everything to reach out and deliver us from the traps we set for ourselves. Finally, God will make good on all His promises. The time will come when the veil between God and humans will be parted and the Son of God will descend in the tiniest, frailest, most vulnerable way into the womb of a Virgin that He Himself contemplated, designed, and created and desired to be the ultimate Woman and His Mother, His Mama, His Mom, His Ma - Mary, immaculately conceived and set apart for the Son who took flesh in her and became Immanuel for us.

PSALM 40:7-11 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

God did not ask human beings to become the sacrifice, the holocaust, the victim for the sins that they have committed. He did not ask His creatures to pay the price for their iniquity - they couldn't make atonement for their own sins. To do this He needed a Lamb without stain or blemish. A perfect Lamb. Perfection could not be found in tainted human flesh and so He sent You, His Son, to become one like us in all things save our tainted human nature.

You knew Your Father's loving heart. You were aware of His unfathomable love for the frail creatures He created with such passion and the wonderful future He desired for them and in that wordless look that You exchanged with Him, You said, 'Here am I,' You willingly became the Sacrifice, the Holocaust, the Victim because doing Your Father's will was food and drink to You. It delighted You to say, yes to Him. Just as it delighted Your Mother to say yes to Him.

We thank You Beloved, and we thank Your Mama and ours on this great feast of the Annunciation of Your Birth, for revealing to us the Face of the Father, the Word of the Father, the Love of the Father for His little ones.

HEBREWS 10:4-10 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

Non-Christians cannot wrap their heads around a God of flesh and blood. A God who would willingly become a frail human being giving up His glory in heaven in order to save sinful creatures. It takes faith which is God's free gift to those who believe and by believing we are saved.

Ever since humanity's separation from God because of sin, they have tried to appease Him with all kinds of bloody sacrifices but St. Paul tells us succinctly and bluntly, Bulls’ blood and goats’ blood are useless for taking away sins, and this is what Christ said, on coming into the world:

You who wanted no sacrifice or oblation,
prepared a body for me.
You took no pleasure in holocausts or sacrifices for sin;
then I said,
just as I was commanded in the scroll of the book,
‘God, here I am! I am coming to obey your will.’

God rejected and rejects every sacrifice that we can conceive of in expiation for our sins. No amount of blood of bulls, goats, sheep, and even the terrible and barbaric human sacrifices that humanity offered God in ages past. It has always been God's will that we are to be saved by one way and one way alone and that way is
through You - there is NO OTHER.

The one, holy, perfect sacrifice made once-for-all on Calvary in the only Sacrifice pleasing and acceptable to the Father for the forgiveness of our sins. It is this Sacrifice that You instituted at the Last Supper and commanded us to offer in remembrance of Your that atones for the sins of all humanity.

There is no other Way for us to be saved except in and through You. Except by eating Your Flesh and drinking Your Blood without which we can never have Life, and unless we accept the Truth of God that You revealed in Your incarnation - we can neither know the Way nor receive Your Life.

And this will was for us to be made holy by the offering of his body made once and for all by Jesus Christ.

Wrapped in perfect silence,
She was immersed in prayer,
Quite unaware an angel of
The Lord was standing there.

He called her name out softly,
“Hail Mary, full of grace.”
His greeting filled her with alarm,
As she returned his gaze.

“Be not afraid dear Mary,
You're chosen to fulfill,
God's plan to bear the Saviour,
Naming Him Emmanuel.”

“You know I am a virgin,
How then can this be true?”
“By the Spirit’s powerful presence,
And God overshadowing you.”

“I am the Lord’s handmaiden,
As you’ve said, so may it be,
According to God’s Holy Word
And His plan for me.”

Not even for an instant,
Did she contemplate,
Refusal to the angel’s plea,
Nor did she hesitate.

Heaven's gates flew open,
Angelic choirs sang,
With her fiat, Divinity,
Took on the Flesh of Man.

Today we honor Mary,
As the Mother of our race,
God’s exquisite masterpiece,
Adorned with matchless grace.

WEDNESDAY OF THE FIFTH WEEK OF LENT - 2021

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Blessed are those who,
with a noble and generous heart,
take the word of God to themselves
and yield a harvest through their perseverance. LK 8:15

DANIEL 3:14-20,24-25,28 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

Too often we are taken in by the bluster of the world and cave to the bullying of those who imagine they are more powerful than God. This is a lie that is perpetuated by the godless and the fool and the coward is taken in by them.

The world constantly raises up golden statues of one kind or another and compels us to bow down before them. Those who refuse are not tolerated. The world favors fools who flow with the stream and acquiesce to the status quo. They cause no trouble to the wicked who can then scheme their demonic schemes to devour, to plunder, to destroy, and to kill.

King Nebuchadnezzar was clueless that he being manipulated by evil men. They played on his ego and were able to trick him into commanding the destruction of good men. Men and women of faith will always stand against the current and the forces of evil in the world and they will be ready to lay down their lives for the truth.

In every age, men and women of honor, character, valor, faith in God, and faith in the intrinsic value of every human being in our world, and with the help and grace of God have stood in the breach and withstood grave evil. We will never know how often God Himself has come down and walked with us as He did with Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego when the flames were at their fiercest and kept us safe from the powers of darkness that otherwise would have overwhelmed the world.

In the face of evil may we have the confidence of these three upright young men who stood by their beliefs and bluntly told the king that they would not worship false gods whether or not the one true God whom they believed in came to their rescue.

The world is infuriated by good and faithful Christians who are unbowed no matter what threats are made. Just as the Pharisees and all Your enemies would not rest until they destroyed You, so too the world sees Christians as a thorn in their flesh.

And so long as the Church remains in the world the rulers of this world will be amazed at the power of God who comes to save His people. ‘Did we not have these three men thrown bound into the fire?’ They replied, ‘Certainly, O king.’ ‘But,’ he went on ‘I can see four men walking about freely in the heart of the fire without coming to any harm. And the fourth looks like a son of the gods.’

Because of the faithfulness of a few God will show mercy on the many just as He assured Abraham who pleaded with Him for the people of Sodom and Gomorrah. Only now Beloved, it is Your wounds that plead for mercy before the throne of God.

PSALM DANIEL 3:52-56 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

As long as we have praise in our hearts we will have a song on our lips for You will ensure that we will be a people of joy no matter what the circumstances in our life.

Grant me the courage O Lord to never cease to praise You every moment of my life.

FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT - 2021

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Whoever serves me must follow me, says the Lord;
and where I am, there also will my servant be. JN 12:26

JEREMIAH 31:31-34 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

In this night of our lives that has descended on the world like a poisonous miasma, and cloying to everything with the stench of death and decay, Your Word, uttered through the lips of the prophet Jeremiah, are a soothing balm to the soul.

How can we ever thank the Father for loving us even though we are unworthy of it. Over and over again since the dawn of creation, we have been disobedient, rebellious, sinful, disobedient, wayward, hard of heart, and cold in spirit, and have stubbornly walked away from God.

And now, after breaking covenant after covenant, He remains steadfast in His love and makes a final and lasting Covenant with us with no other than His only beloved Son. You, the Eternal Word of the Father is now imprinted on our very soul, and sealed in Your Blood and the Holy Spirit. It is irrevocable and it ensures our salvation in and through You.

Deep within them I will plant my Law, writing it on their hearts. Then I will be their God and they shall be my people. There will be no further need for neighbour to try to teach neighbour, or brother to say to brother, ‘Learn to know the Lord!’ No, they will all know me, the least no less than the greatest – it is the Lord who speaks – since I will forgive their iniquity and never call their sin to mind.

PSALM 51:3-4,12-15 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

Long, long, ago the plea of the psalmist found favor in the heart of God and You gave us the most healing of all the Sacraments after Baptism, the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Through this Sacrament, we are guaranteed that sin will never again separate us from God.

You instituted the Sacrament of Reconciliation and every time we approach it with humble and contrite hearts and confess our sins to the priests, we hear You utter those blessed words of restoration, "Your sins are forgiven, go in peace and sin no more.

You create a pure heart for us every time. You have mercy on us. In Your compassion, You blot out all ours sins and offenses and we are made a new creation in You once again.

You restore our relationship with the Father and we are filled once again with the joy of the Holy Spirit. May every confession we make help us to truly strive with Your help to sin no more and avoid the near occasion of sin.

HEBREWS 5:7-9 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

You teach us that every prayer offered to the Father in Your Name in obedience and humility will always be heard. This is the assurance given to all who believe in You.

You are our Model in prayer. You show us how to approach the Father with our prayers of praise, adoration, thanksgiving, intercession, and petitions. Perfunctory prayers made out of dull routine and do not involve our whole being will never be heard. Prayer involves leaning on the heart of the Father with the confidence of a little child, and opening our whole being with utter simplicity to Him.

No favor we ask is too great. No prayer will go unheard no matter how inconsequential it may seem it is not so to our Father. He gives us His total attention. He is always available. He is wholly present to us when we approach Him in Your Name. But may we never ever forget that we must approach the God of all mercy and compassion with humility and obediently embrace suffering. It is through suffering that we are purified and make perfect.

If we are to be perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect we must learn from You who, as St. Paul tells us, 'Although he was Son, he learnt to obey through suffering; but having been made perfect, he became for all who obey him the source of eternal salvation.'

JOHN 12:20-33 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

St. John's Gospel invites us to pay attention to every detail of the scenes he is reconstructing for us and invites us to direct our gaze to the many signs that reveal who You are.

Today, on the 5th Sunday in Lent, a week before Passion Sunday, he reveals details of Your presence in the Temple in Jerusalem. The place is thronging with people both Jews and Gentiles who have come to Jerusalem for the festival. Among them are some Greeks who approach Phillip who in turn goes to Andrew and together they come to You to of these men who wished to see You. It is significant that the Greeks have heard of You and wish to see You and You recognize that the 'hour' which You referred to from the beginning of Your public ministry is finally approaching.

‘Now the hour has come
for the Son of Man to be glorified.'

No sooner do You speak of Your glory You speak of Your death linking the two.

I tell you, most solemnly,
unless a wheat grain falls on the ground and dies,
it remains only a single grain;
but if it dies,
it yields a rich harvest.

Paradoxically to live one must lose one's life and to gain eternal life one must hate his life in this world. If we desire to serve You we cannot do it worthily if we do not follow You and anyone who serves You will be honored by Your Father. What a privilege! What a wonderful assurance.

But eternal joy and eternal union with God demands a price - the price of suffering. You were fully human and fully divine knowing full well the extent of the physical agony You were to endure to make expiation for the sins of the whole world Your whole being naturally recoiled. But You were also aware that it was necessary, it was what Your Father willed for You, this is the way the Father chose to reveal His great love for us, His weak, sinful creatures, this was the way in which we would be made part of the family of God. We would be adopted by Him through You. All for Your Father's glory - You would submit in perfect obedience to glorify Him and He, in turn, would glorify You by drawing the whole world which was thus far under the influence of Satan, back to God. A voice from heaven confirmed that all glory would rebound back to God through You and through Your suffering.

The world would lift You up above the earth just as the fiery seraph was raised above the earth. You would draw the sins of the whole world to Yourself, crucify it, absorb it and pour out from Your pierced side forgiveness, mercy, and pardon for all humanity.

Thank You, Lord!
