Malachi 3:1-4

My Love, Beloved of my soul.

In today's first reading the prophet foretells the coming of John the Baptist, the forerunner of the Christ and he speaks of You – the Covenant of Love of God who takes away the sins of the world. You came into the world purify all who believe in You with the fire of the Holy Spirit so we can stand before You without fear and trembling. Sin separates us from God but in You, we have forgiveness of sins and loving compassion. Thank You Beloved for uniting us to the Father by the once-for-all Sacrifice that takes away the sins of the world.

Psalm 24:7-10

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

Who is this King of glory? It is the Lord.

Thank You Beloved for coming to us, for stooping in humility to enter our poor souls in the Holy Eucharist. You are the Lord, strong and mighty. You are mighty in battle against evil, against the world, against the flesh. Thank You for taking away our sins and washing us clean with Your precious Blood, for entering our hearts, and making Your home in us.

Hebrews 2:14-18

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

Thank You for coming in the flesh and becoming like us whom You deign to call brothers and sisters. Thank You for destroying sin by Your perfect Sacrifice and restoring all that we had lost through original sin. Thank You for becoming our merciful and faithful High Priest before God, our heavenly Father, and offering to Him continually the Sacrifice You made for us on Calvary. Thank You for Your mercy and compassion for our weaknesses for You know perfectly well what it is to be tempted although You remained sinless. Thank You for identifying Yourself so closely with us by sharing our human condition and for entering our death in order that we may receive Your life.

Luke 2:22-40

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

Of You, Simeon said to Mary, Your Mother,

“Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted and you yourself a sword will pierce so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

Mary and Joseph looked with wonder at Simeon as he spoke these words, understanding little of what he prophesied in the power of the Spirit. Today, 2000 years later we understand all that You have done to save the world, restore it, and offer it back to the Father; a world that was separated from God after the Fall. Now we know of the sword that pierced the heart of Mary and continues to pierce her mysteriously for her many children who still live in darkness and sin despite the Sacrifice of her Son.

Continue to pray and intercede for us Holy Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, that we, your children, may all come home safely at last. Amen.
