20TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - 2024

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood
lives in me, and I live in him,
says the Lord. JN 6:56

PROVERBS 9:1-6

My Soul's Beloved,

You have built Your Church, You have established the priesthood with You as the Eternal High Priest, and You have given Peter and his successors the authority to and the power to do all that You did. You instituted the 7 Sacraments through which the grace of the Holy Spirit, like living water, pour into our hearts, souls, and lives. It is here that the priests, for all time, have the power to take our offerings of bread and wine, and speaking as You, these simple gifts are transfigured and transubstantiated into Your own most precious Body and Blood. The faithful is invited to eat Your Flesh and drink Your Blood and we receive eternal life as we feast on this Banquet of Love.

All are invited Lord without exception You send Your servants into the highways and byways, to clothe themselves in the bridal garments of baptism and partake of and be nourished by this heavenly food which wells up to eternal life in us. However, we must receive and accept the invitation and prepare ourselves before we can be seated at the Eucharistic table. Without the Church, without the Sacraments, and without this heavenly manna, we may find ourselves cast out into the darkness forever.

Wisdom has built herself a house,
she has erected her seven pillars,
she has slaughtered her beasts, prepared her wine,
she has laid her table.
She has despatched her maidservants
and proclaimed from the city’s heights:
‘Who is ignorant? Let him step this way.’
To the fool she says,
‘Come and eat my bread,
drink the wine I have prepared!
Leave your folly and you will live,
walk in the ways of perception.’

PSALM 33(34):2-3,10-15

Taste and see that the Lord is good.
I will bless the Lord at all times,
  his praise always on my lips;
in the Lord my soul shall make its boast.
  The humble shall hear and be glad.
Revere the Lord, you his saints.
  They lack nothing, those who revere him.
Strong lions suffer want and go hungry
  but those who seek the Lord lack no blessing.
Come, children, and hear me
  that I may teach you the fear of the Lord.
Who is he who longs for life
  and many days, to enjoy his prosperity?
Then keep your tongue from evil
  and your lips from speaking deceit.
Turn aside from evil and do good;
  seek and strive after peace.
Taste and see that the Lord is good.

EPHESIANS 5:15-20

My Soul's Beloved,

St. Paul tells us clearly how we can navigate this valley of tears, suffering, evil, and death with ease, if, filled with the Holy Spirit, we choose to walk in the way of  Truth.

Our culture promotes a life of sterility leading to decay and death. We are a people who are obsessed with navel-gazing, all are absorbed in narcissistic pleasure-seeking worship of the world, the flesh and evil. If we do not wake up soon we will be taken up in the furious tempest that will destroy the world as in the days of Noah. Thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness in ensuring that a faithful remnant always rises from the ashes of our cupidity and stupidity. Thank You, Lord, for Your Word that is eternal and alive and assures us that Your Church will not perish but will endure until You return again in glory. Maranatha! Lord Jesus, Maranatha!

Be very careful about the sort of lives you lead, like intelligent and not like senseless people. This may be a wicked age, but you redeem it. And do not be thoughtless but recognise what is the will of the Lord. Do not drug yourselves with wine, this is simply dissipation; be filled with the Spirit. Sing the words and tunes of the psalms and hymns when you are together, and go on singing and chanting to the Lord in your hearts, so that always and everywhere you are giving thanks to God who is our Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

JOHN 6:51-58

My Soul's Beloved,

The devil is a deceiver, wily, cunning, duplicitous, evil, a harbinger of death. He knows our weaknesses and he worms and works in us through half-truths, and deceit, and beguiles us by feeding on our vanity, ego, and desire for ease and pleasure. Sadly the Christian world and all its sects, factions, and divisions, have bought into the lie because to believe in the Truth means that they have to die to their flesh.  They nitpick or magnify things that are irrelevant, and obfuscate or completely deny the things that a crystal clear and must be taken just as it is because Your Word means just what it says.

The most glaring and most divisive divine teaching is today's Gospel passage. The Catholic Church is the only Church that preaches, teaches, and lives out this teaching, and because she does she lives. She will endure until Your return in glory because she is nourished by Your Flesh and Blood without it she too, like the rest of the Christian-protestant world would die as they are dying slowly, but most assuredly.

Thank You, Beloved, for Your Body and Blood and for this food that is freely available to all the faithful. Grant us many and holy priests O Lord for without priests there would be no anointed and consecrated hands and lips to bring us the necessary food.

Jesus said to the crowd:
‘I am the living bread which has come down from heaven.
Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever;
and the bread that I shall give is my flesh,
for the life of the world.’
Then the Jews started arguing with one another: ‘How can this man give us his flesh to eat?’ they said. Jesus replied:
‘I tell you most solemnly,
if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood,
you will not have life in you.
Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood
has eternal life,
and I shall raise him up on the last day.
For my flesh is real food
and my blood is real drink.
He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood
lives in me
and I live in him.
As I, who am sent by the living Father,
myself draw life from the Father,
so whoever eats me will draw life from me.
This is the bread come down from heaven;
not like the bread our ancestors ate:
they are dead,
but anyone who eats this bread will live for ever.’
