THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

This is my Son, the Beloved:
he enjoys my favour.
Listen to him. MT 17:5

  DANIEL 7:9-10, 13-14

In the vision granted to the prophet Daniel, he saw You, the One before all ages, the One who is above all, all glorious, all-powerful, almighty, ever-living Lord and the Son of God to whom is given all dominion in heaven, on earth, and under the earth.

It is the will of God, Your Father, and ours that we are formed into a people for You. We are called by Your Name and we are Your inheritance chosen by God in You and for You from every nation, race, language, and color. You are the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and to You is given the Throne in the highest heavens at the right hand of the Father. You are the sovereign ruler of all who is, was, and ever shall be, and Your sovereign rule and reign are eternal.

I thank and praise God, our Father, that He chose me to belong to You in time and in eternity.

PSALM 97:2-3, 5-6, 9

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

It is the will and the good pleasure of God, our Father, Creator of heaven and earth, to appoint You and enthrone You as sovereign ruler.

You are the Eternal Word of God and all that is came to be through You. Thank You, for the incarnation, for becoming like us in all things save sin, and for paying the ransom for our salvation with Your life. Thank You for the hope we have in You of eternal life in the Kingdom of God and for everlasting joy in God's presence together with all the angels and the saints.

MATTHEW 17:1-9

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

Peter, James, and John were part of Your inner circle. They were privileged to witness many things the rest of the Apostles didn't and Your transfiguration, a mountain top experience, was one of these.

To us, it is a reminder, that if we desire to draw close to You we must be prepared to leave the world and all its distractions behind raising our whole heart, mind, and spirit in silence and solitude to You.

High on the mountain, alone with You, and in their presence, the veil was lifted briefly and they saw  Your divinity and glory as You were transfigured. Your face shone like the sun, Your clothes became radiantly white and Moses and Elijah appeared. One representing the law and the other the prophets whose fulfillment is in You.

They spoke to You about the events that would soon occur,  and Peter was so overwhelmed with the glory of the scene he wanted to hold on to it, build tents, and remain there with You and Your heavenly companions.  While he was still making plans a cloud covered them and they heard a voice that said, "This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favor. Listen to him." Overcome with fear they fell on their faces and then they found themselves alone with You. You touched them, asked them to stand up, and told them not to be afraid. As they came down the mountain You urged them to speak to no one about what they had seen until You rose from the dead.

Thank You, Beloved, for leaving Your glory behind in order to suffer, die, and save us. Grant that we remain faithful always.
