TUESDAY OF WEEK 9 IN ORDINARY TIME - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ
enlighten the eyes of our hearts,
that we may know what is the hope
that belongs to his call. EPH 1:17-18

2 PETER 3:12-15A, 17-18

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

Peter reminds us to live lives pleasing to You. When we look at the world today there seems to be no safe place. Terror, death, and evil, lurk everywhere. However, we must remain confident for we are built on the firm foundation of the Rock. Though the mountains fall, the hills turn to dust, and the seas dry up Your Word which is eternal will sustain us.

While we wait patiently for the storm to pass, we will pray and praise You constantly, calling to mind Your faithfulness which never fails. You are our peace - it is Your gift to us. We will not be overwhelmed by the terror of the night nor the arrow that flies by day for You are with us. We are safe because You have saved us, to You be glory and praise forever.

PSALM 90:2-4, 10, 14 & 16

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

As we live these dread-filled days, these days of uncertainty and anxiety for so many, these days filled with death and decay and as we wait for them to pass we will contemplate the words of the psalmist:

To your eyes a thousand years
are like yesterday, come and gone,
no more than a watch in the night.

You are eternally God and in You, all who believe find refuge. Mortal life will end only to be taken up in immortality. We trust You, we believe in You, we place all our hope in You. Thank You for always being our ever-present help in times of difficulty.

MARK 12:13-17

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

The chief priests and the scribes were shameless in their relentless pursuit to trap You. They had cleverly manipulated the law to their benefit and You exposed their lies to the people. Their hatred was visceral and nothing short of Your death would satisfy them.

How astutely You took the wind out of their sails when You said, ‘Give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar – and to God what belongs to God.’ This reply took them completely by surprise.

Little has changed in the world. It continues to hate You and all who follow You. There are many who are consumed to the point of lunacy with temporal matters of money, health, power, and influence and they will stop at nothing to further their goals. But we need not worry for we have received Your Holy Spirit and You have assured us that He will give us the wisdom necessary when the world lays traps for us.
