WEDNESDAY IN THE OCTAVE OF EASTER - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

This is the day the LORD has made;
let us be glad and rejoice in it. PS 118:4

ACTS 3:1-10

My Beloved, soul of my soul,

If we believe in Your Word, if we have faith that all we ask for in prayer will be given to us, we and everyone around us will be filled with amazement and astonishment.

The power of the Resurrection fills the Church, the world, and every believer in the Good News. We have now been given a Name that is above every other and at Your Name, Beloved, every knee will bow, and every tongue will proclaim to the glory of God our Father that You are Lord. Demons tremble at the Name and all we ask for, the Father will give us in this Name because we believe in His only Son.

The Good News must be preached to all who are still crippled by original sin and are seated at the temple gate. Like Peter and John, we must share this free gift of our faith so all may come to believe and be saved.

PSALM 105:1-4, 6-9

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

The reason many of us are such miserable creatures is that we have not yet learned the power of counting our blessings and giving You thanks for each one of them. A grateful heart is a heart that sings God's praise giving glory to the Giver. It is a heart on fire with love and joy.

We are too self-absorbed. We are too busy being negative, fault-finding and critical not only of ourselves but of others. We are unhappy because we judge ourselves by the standard of the world and its culture rather than glorying in the truth that before God lay the foundations of the world He knew us and loved us. He made an eternal Covenant with us and sealed it with Your Blood because He desires that we who believe in You have a share in Your glory and live with Him forever.

This is the truth that will make our hearts sing joyful hymns of praise to God constantly.

LUKE 24:13-35

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

Two very sad and disappointed disciples were leaving Jerusalem and going to Emmaus because things did not turn out as they had desired and hoped. Their hearts were heavy as they re-hashed all the recent events that had occurred. Keeping Your promise that where two or three are gathered in Your Name, You will be in their midst, You joined them and entered into dialogue with them.

They opened their hearts to You revealing all that had happened and how disappointed they all were at how things turned out crushing all their hopes and dreams. You admonished them gently and began to break the Word of God to them explaining Scriptures and revealing how all the prophesies were fulfilled in all the events that had occurred. As You spoke everything began to make sense and as they approached the village they could not bear to let You go and urged You to stay with them. The closer we get to You, the greater our hunger to know You better and to stay close to You. You accepted their invitation as You always accept our invitation to come into our hearts.

While You were seated with them at table,  said the blessing, broke the bread and gave it to them that their eyes were opened and they recognized You as You vanished from their sight.

Once they had encountered You they went back to the place from where they had fled to share the Good News with the other disciples and discovered that You had appeared to Simon as well.

During these days of uncertainty when we are unable to gather around the Eucharistic table to eat Your Body we ask You to continue to create in us such an ardent desire for You that when the day finally arrives when we will receive You again, our hearts will explode with joy.
