TUESDAY IN THE OCTAVE OF EASTER - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

This is the day the LORD has made;
let us be glad and rejoice in it. PS 118:24

ACTS 2:36-41

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

The world today is no different from the time of St. Peter when he addressed the Jewish people on the day of Pentecost. Many in the crowd had demanded Your crucifixion and the release of Barabbas just a few days ago just as there are many in the world who wish to remove all trace of You from the world's collective memory.

Then the world is brought to its knees and we realize that we are not as in control as we believed, there are powers and forces at work that we are unable to control. We realize our inability to withstand the forces of evil without divine intervention and we cry out, "What are we to do?"

Peter's response is applicable to every age:

Repent and be baptized, every one of you,
in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of your sins;
and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
For the promise is made to you and to your children
and to all those far off,
whomever the Lord our God will call.”

“Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”

Those who accept this message and believe are saved.

PSALM 33:4-5, 18-20, 22

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

Even as the world is turned on its head by the pandemic right now there are many evil people and organizations seeking to profit from the situation.

It is hard not to lose heart when one is bombarded from every side by the media frenzy each one louder than the other, clamoring for our attention and trying to outdo the other by their alarmist views. They seek to divide an already divided world even more. They are hand in glove with the devil whose chief mission is to divide.

We thank You for Your Word, we thank You for Your Church that is gathering her flock close in these troubling times. We cling to our faith for we know that You have the power to draw good from evil. We place all our hope and trust in You and in the victory of the Cross.

JOHN 20:11-18

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

Like Mary Magdalene outside the tomb, the whole world is weeping. Parents everywhere are mourning the loss of their children. Husbands and wives,  sisters and brothers, friends and neighbors, are all in mourning. There is weeping, wailing. Fear and the stench of death fills our nostrils, yet heaven has never been closer to us than in these days. Despite the evil, we see love triumph over hate and neighbor looking out for neighbor. Angels are everywhere.

Let us not forget that we are an Easter people and our song is Alleluia. You are closer to us now in these dark days than when we went about our own business ignoring You. To each of us You say, "Why are you weeping? I am alive and I am here. Be not afraid. Have courage! I Am with you now and to the end of time."
