FRIDAY IN THE OCTAVE OF EASTER - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

This is the day the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it. Ps 118:24

ACTS 4:1-12

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

Despite every effort by the forces of evil to overcome good, good always prevails; this truth is very consoling. Sometimes it may seem that the darkness will continue to oppress the world but this is the lie that Satan propagates. From the very beginning, evil has tried every trick to steal from God the crown of His creation and he will continue to do so until You come again in glory.

After putting You to death, the Jewish authorities thought they had rid themselves of You. And here they were once again unable to control the power that they had unwittingly unleashed - the power of the Holy Spirit.

For two thousand years and to the present day many nations in the world continue to persecute, imprison, flog, and put to death those who follow You and yet no nation, no government, no ruler, no faction will ever succeed in destroying the Church You founded and promised to remain with until You return in glory.

Alleluia! Maranatha Lord Jesus! Maranatha!

PSALM 118:1-2, 4, 22-24, 25-27A

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

How it must irk the Devil and the demons in hell that they have lost. This is why, in these last days, we have seen an explosion of evil in the world especially among lukewarm and cafeteria Catholics and Christians.

The battle is won. Death has lost. Love is victorious. The Cross is the emblem of Your triumph and suffering is the badge of honor we wear for it is when we are weak that we are strong and it is in dying to self that we are born to eternal life. This is the paradox of the Cross and of suffering.

You have shown us the Way. The stone that the world continues to reject is the Cornerstone on which all who believe can confidently build their lives.

JOHN 21:1-14

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

There is so much that John reveals in these 14 verses it would take a lifetime to plumb their depths. This is the journey of every Christian. There are times when we grow despondent when the world will weary us, and nothing we do works. It is at times like these we go back to what is familiar, what we know in order to forget. Yet we come up empty, short and we are frustrated.

Then we hear the sweet, still, voice of the Holy Spirit and He guides us, instructs us and we listen and obey. The fruit of obedience is overwhelming joy in You. Only You can satisfy all our longing, all our hopes, and all our dreams. But without You, life is drab, grey and empty.

May we always be attuned to the voice of Your Spirit and may we always listen and obey.
