SATURDAY IN THE OCTAVE OF EASTER - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

This is the day the LORD has made;
let us be glad and rejoice in it. PS 118:24

ACTS 4:13-21

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

When we forget self, when we know who we are by virtue of our Baptism, when we look to the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us and not rely on our own puny strength and intellect, then like Peter and John we can witness boldly to the Gospel.

Faith has the power to withstand the wiles of the Enemy. Faith in You and in Your Name is all we need to stand firm against the powers of darkness that have taken over many institutions and organizations in the world. The wicked will not rest until they muzzle all who are unafraid to testify to the Truth.

Those whom the world deems ordinary and uneducated, like Peter and John, who empowered by the Holy Spirit, will preach the Good News accompanied by signs and wonders, and many will come to believe in You.

PSALM 118: 1, 14-21

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

The glad cry of the Church, 'This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it' is the cry of many in these dark days. Life as we knew it put on hold for the moment. We are given the opportunity to introspect and examine our lives, our relationships, our needs and wants. We are being sensitized to the needs of others especially the more vulnerable among us.

The specter of death looms large even though death has always been part of the human experience.

This is the time when people in every nation are turning to You and crying out for mercy, help, salvation, miracles. Your justice is always tempered with mercy and this will be our experience again. When this trial passes and life limps back to normalcy may the world we return to be a kinder, gentler, more loving and more respectful one.

MARK 16:9-15

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

We are told that Your companions were mourning and weeping. They were heartbroken. All the Apostles with the exception of John were also guilt-stricken because when the hour You constantly spoke of had arrived, they fled. Then Mary Magdalene arrives flushed and out of breath, bursting with the glad tidings that one would imagine they would be delighted to hear. But when they heard You were alive and had appeared to Mary, Mark, the evangelist records bluntly, that they did not believe. Mary's testimony held no weight with them.

Thankfully, Beloved, You do not treat us as we deserve. You rebuke us for our infidelity and disbelief just as You did Your disciples but You do not withdraw Your favor from us.

 Thank You for all the graces You make available to us to be faithful witnesses to Your love.
