JEREMIAH 17:5-10

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

Once again I marvel at the Holy Spirit for it is through His wisdom working in the Church that has inspired her to give us this feast of daily Liturgical readings in this season of Lent reminding us of the frailty of our flesh and the awesome love of God who is always at hand to save all who call on Your Name.

Too often, Beloved, I have put my trust in human beings and I have been bitterly disappointed. Too often I have tried to do things on my own strength and have failed miserably. Too often have I wallowed in the mire of sin and fed at the trough where swine feed. But for You, Beloved, I would have died in my sin and been lost forever. I deserved eternal damnation.

Thank You, for never giving up on me. Thank You for revealing the Father's love for me. Thank You for pouring Your Holy Spirit on me. No longer do I need to struggle on my own, all I need to do is take refuge in You and You will take me safely home. Thank You!

PSALM 1:1-4, 6

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

You have given the world this time when the fear of an epidemic threatens nations, to take a moment to reflect on our empty lives filled with trivial, hedonistic frivolities. We have strayed far away from the paths of wisdom and truth. We have allowed the world, the flesh, and the devil to lead us willingly to the place where the fire never goes out and the worms don't die.

Now is the time to wake up from our slumber and come back to You with all our hearts. You love us too much, too great a price was paid by God to permit us to be lost eternally. This is the time that God desires that we uproot ourselves from the wasteland and plant ourselves near the streams of living water so we can flourish once more and bear good fruit for Your glory. May we not squander this opportunity Beloved.

LUKE 16:19-31

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

Today's parable reflects perfectly the world we live in today. Like the rich man, we have pampered our flesh, we have grown plump and sleek with self-indulgence. We have been blind to the truth. We have become so blindingly selfish that we fastidiously turn away from the stench of the poverty and misery of our brothers and sisters. More importantly, we who call ourselves Catholic have not witnessed to those who do not know You, and this is the graver sin. We have kept the knowledge of salvation to ourselves and have failed to live our faith publicly and boldly in the public square. We are too timid to profess the faith we believe in for fear of persecution. We are consumed with what can be done to our bodies and forget that You can consign our bodies and souls to hell eternally.

Once we are dead we will find out like the rich man did, that we no longer have access to Your mercy. The time for feasting must end and the time of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving must begin. This is the time to reacquaint ourselves with You, with Your Word, with the Sacraments ministered by Your Church and be led back to the Way that leads to salvation.
