DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS
I hope in the LORD, I trust in his word;
with him there is kindness and plenteous redemption. PS 130:5, 7
2 KINGS 5:1-15AB
PSALM 42:2, 3; 43:3, 4
LUKE 4:24-30
2 KINGS 5:1-15AB
My Beloved, Soul of my soul,
No matter how high the places of honor we occupy in the world, without You, we, like the lepers in the Old Testament, are without hope for the consequence of sin is death.
Naaman was prepared to go to great lengths in order to be cured but he wanted to be healed on his terms. He was healed only when he did what the prophet directed him to do. He put aside his arrogance and obeyed.
It is in humility and obedience that Your power works best in our lives.
PSALM 42:2, 3; 43:3, 4
My Beloved, Soul of my soul,
We had turned our faces from You. Our feet took paths that led us away from the Way of Truth. We lived unholy, self-indulgent lives. We whiled away the precious time we have been given to amuse ourselves with frivolities. We had forgotten that we were created for You and You alone.
We are thirsty and have found that nothing and no one but You can satisfy us. We return to You with humble and contrite hearts. Forgive us and lead us back to the place where You dwell. Washed and cleansed once again by Your precious Blood we will behold You once again and be filled with joy in Your Presence.
LUKE 4:24-30
My Beloved, Soul of my soul,
The world has rejected divine wisdom. The world has rejected innocence and purity. The world has despised that which is sacred and has derided divine institutions. We persecute those who speak the truth with courage and boldness despite the consequences. Like the people in the synagogue at Nazareth, we are thin-skinned. We cannot bear criticism. We are prepared to go to absurd lengths to justify our sins. We are Christian only in name and are more deserving of hell-fire than those who do not know You.
To this day there are those who are so filled with fury at Your teaching of the Truth that cannot be compromised that they are willing to hurl You headlong into the abyss.
Grant O Lord that we return to You before it is too late.
