Tuesday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time - Reflection

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

I am the good shepherd, says the Lord;
I know my sheep, and mine know me. Jn 10:14

Genesis 32:23-33, Psalm 17:1B-3, 7-8, 15,
Matthew 9:32-38

Genesis 32:23-33

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

If we are to encounter You we need to be free of distractions, we need to wait alone and in silence. When we wrestle with You we also wrestle with our own weaknesses, frailties, sinful tendencies and with Your help we prevail over them. In You, we are a new creation.

When we pray we must pray with the boldness and confidence of Jacob knowing that You will not deny us what we need to live holy, fruitful lives.

Psalm 17:1B-3, 7-8, 15

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

The psalms teach us how to pray, the attitude we ought to have in prayer, they show us how God responds to those who pray and the blessings that flow from a life of gratitude to God who loves us with a love that is beyond anything we can imagine.

Thank You for the privilege to come into Your Presence anytime day or night for You make Your sanctuary in us. Thank You, for always answering our prayers. Thank You for never withholding Your mercy but for readily forgiving us no matter how grave our offenses.

Thank You for inviting us to take refuge in You and finally, thank You for the hope we have of eternal life and a share in Your inheritance in the Kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 9:32-38

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

You healed a man possessed of a demon and he was able to speak again. The crowds were amazed for they had never witnessed such amazing things which were clear signs of the work of God and the power of God in You. However, in the world, there will always be people like the Pharisees who are jealous, envious, small-minded, people who cannot see past their own vision of a god made in their image and likeness.

The people were always amazed at the miracles You performed and knew that such power could only come from God; but for those in authority, it was another matter. They saw You as a threat to their way of life, their power, their perceived spiritual autonomy over the people; this is why they condemned You, maligned You and blasphemed that it was through the power of the demons that You performed miracles. However, this did not deter You and it ought not to deter us as well when people misunderstand or speak ill of us as long as we know that we are doing the work of God.

Despite the persecution You endured, You continued to teach, preach, and heal because Your heart was full of pity and compassion for the people whose religious leaders had failed them.

In our time too, Beloved, we thank You for raising up men and women in the Church who are filled with the zeal of the Spirit of God and have the fire of God's love in their soul. They have given up a comfortable life in the world in order to bring the Good News to Your people whose shepherds oftentimes are too busy with pursuits that have nothing to do with the tending of the flock entrusted to them.

Truly Beloved, "The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few." Grant O Lord, that we do not turn our back on the mission given to us to go out into the world and to bring in the harvest of souls for the glory of God and for His Kingdom.
