DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS
Incline my heart, O God, to your decrees;
and favor me with your law. Ps 119:36A, 29B
2 Corinthians 5:14-21, Psalm 103:1-4, 9-12,
Matthew 5:33-27
2 Corinthians 5:14-21
My Love, Beloved of my soul,
If we truly love You then we have to get up and get going - love is not static, it is wide awake, alert, ready to move ahead, to move along, and do all that love commands.
St. Paul and the Apostles, guided by the Holy Spirit, went wherever they were sent even though they knew that in many places they would be rejected, persecuted, condemned and even face death but many would hear the Truth, the Good News, and be saved.
If our witness to Your life and love causes even one person to believe in You, Beloved, then our life will be well spent. Help us to get over our prejudices, over our cultural differences, over every human barrier that we set up which creates obstacles to genuine friendships. We are all created in the image and likeness of God. God's imprint is on every soul that He created and hence we are all brothers and sisters.
Beloved, You died for all whether the world knows it or believes it, it is the truth. And because You lay down Your life for us we now live, move, and have our being in You. Many do not know You, it is our mission to live holy lives, loving all with the same love that You have shown us.
Grant O Lord, that Your light shining in us be ignited in their lives so that they too may believe in You and be saved.
Psalm 103:1-4, 9-12
My Love, Beloved of my soul,
Give me a grateful heart, a heart that does not forget all You have done for me. Give me a heart that thinks of You night and day and even when I am asleep gives You praise.
You have been gracious and kind to me always. You have not kept account of my sins, You have not punished me as I have deserved, even when You lay the cross on me You carried it with me and even in my darkest days, Beloved, Your comfort, and consolation were mine always. You always came swiftly to me when I called to You and You have never tried me more than my ability to endure.
I know that I have not always loved You as I ought to and what is worse my Beloved, I have not loved those I should as I ought. I have been harsh, unkind, cruel, impatient, unjust and I deserve to be punished. But You are patient with me slow to anger and rich in mercy. I beg pardon for all the times I have failed my Lord and my God and I ask with the help of Your grace, made richly available to me in the Sacraments to do better. I trust You my Lord and I know that You will grant me all I need to walk more closely with You each day.
Matthew 5:33-27
My Love, Beloved of my soul,
You are a God of integrity and You are always Yes and Amen. We, as children of God, are called to image You in our relationships with each other. People swear oaths in all kinds of situations and call on You to bear witness to whatever it is they want people to believe. Even in marriage, that holy and sacred covenant, where couples swear a life-long commitment before God and each other only to break that oath without fear or compunction.
So often we call God to witness to oaths we know we will not keep and hence we bring condemnation and judgment on ourselves. This is why You tell us today that a simple yes or no will suffice in our dealings with each other. There is no need to swear on anything if we are honorable.
