DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS
Memorial of St. Boniface, Bishop and Martyr
Your word, O Lord, is truth;
consecrate us in the truth. Jn 17:17B, 17A
Acts 20:28-38, Psalm 68:29-30, 33-35A, 35BC-36AB,
John 17:11B-19
Acts 20:28-38
My Love, Beloved of my soul,
St. Paul reflected you closely in everything he said and did. As he leaves the Church of Ephesus, and aware that he will not return to them again he instructs them for the last time to watch over themselves and the flock. He reminds them that it is the Holy Spirit who has entrusted them with this sacred task and they are to tend the sheep with care for they were purchased with the price of Your Blood.
This warning is for all those who are given the responsibility to tend the members of the Church. You have always made it crystal clear that evil lurks everywhere and Satan will attempt to snatch what is Yours. We have seen it happen. We see the divisions that have fragmented the Church in the different protestant denominations. We see how the love of money, power, and the temptations of the flesh have corrupted those holding prominent positions within the Church. They forgot that they have been appointed to be servants and not to lord it over the sheep. They forgot humility, poverty, obedience, and chastity and they have sold their eternal inheritance for temporary and fleeting material possessions and passions.
Lies are being peddled as truth because those who were entrusted to speak the Truth were silent when it mattered most. We can now see the results of that silence; we see how savagely people are turning on one another to promote evil which is in complete contrast to the Good News that You preached.
But we have faith and hope my Beloved. You have commended us to the Father and we have received Your Holy Spirit. In the end, we will receive a share of Your triumph and victory for love is stronger than death.
Psalm 68:29-30, 33-35A, 35BC-36AB
My Love, Beloved of my soul,
We have seen Your glory. The glory of the Son of God who rose triumphantly from the grave and ascended to heaven to take Your place at the right hand of the Father.
You are seated on the Throne and Your Kingship is eternal. You have been given dominion over all principalities, all nations, all people. No matter how the rulers of the earth and leaders of nations jostle for power and use their position for personal gain, the world belongs to You and in the end, it is Your rule that has the last word.
We believe Lord, that nothing can or will happen that You do not permit and that You can and will draw good from every situation no matter how hopeless it may seem.
John 17:11B-19
My Love, Beloved of my soul,
You are the Way, the Truth and the Life and we are consecrated to You. We are Yours. There is no power that can take us from You. Thank You.
Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed, saying:
"Holy Father, keep them in your name
that you have given me,
so that they may be one just as we are one.
When I was with them I protected them in your name that you gave me, and I guarded them, and none of them was lost
except the son of destruction,
in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
But now I am coming to you.
I speak this in the world
so that they may share my joy completely.
I gave them your word, and the world hated them,
because they do not belong to the world
any more than I belong to the world.
I do not ask that you take them out of the world
but that you keep them from the Evil One.
They do not belong to the world
any more than I belong to the world.
Consecrate them in the truth.
Your word is truth.
As you sent me into the world,
so I sent them into the world.
And I consecrate myself for them,
so that they also may be consecrated in truth."
