Acts 1:15-17, 20-26, Psalm 113:1-8, John 15:9-17

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Feast of Saint Matthias, Apostle

I chose you from the world,
to go and bear fruit that will last, says the Lord. Jn 15:16

Acts 1:15-17, 20-26, Psalm 113:1-8, John 15:9-17

Acts 1:15-17, 20-26

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

Peter was the one You chose as Your visible head of the Church You founded. Now, as the leader of the group he is aware that another has to take the place of the one who betrayed You as it was important that there be 12 Apostles as there were 12 tribes of Israel.

Were he not familiar with Sacred Scripture he would not have been aware of David's prophecy concerning Judas Iscariot. He explained to the rest why it was necessary to choose one from among them and what should be the criteria when making the choice. The final and important step before they made their decision was prayer. They prayed before they cast lots to pick the one that God had chosen.

So it must be with us as well when we are called to make any important decisions. In order to discern God's will, we must know the mind of God through Scripture. We must pray for God to lead and inspire and then we must trust that God will enable us to make the right choice.

Psalm 113:1-8

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

We never hear of Matthias until Peter selects him to complete the number of the Apostles from 11 to 12. It is only when Peter discerns that they ought to pick one from among them that we know about him and Joseph or Barsabbas. We know that they were with You from the beginning of Your Baptism in the River Jordan and that they were witnesses to Your resurrection.

Matthias was Your choice to succeed Judas Iscariot who betrayed You.

You choose whom You will. You choose the small, the weak, the humble, the one that no one will think of humanly speaking, and You raise them up and give them a seat with the chosen ones, the leaders.

It is good to always remember that we must always be ready and prepared should You call us. To say yes when You do and leave the rest to the Holy Spirit.

John 15:9-17

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

Truly, if we are authentic disciples we will live in Your love and be one with You and united with the Father.  The surest way to rest in You, Beloved, is to love and then because we love You we keep Your commandments. This is the only way to know perfect joy in the midst of all the tribulations in life. To know joy even as we bear our daily cross.

It isn't enough to love You, if we truly love You then we will love those around us. Especially those whom we find hardest to love. Love does not discriminate between people. You loved us so perfectly that You lay down Your life for us while we were still sinners. This is love. You loved us before we learned to love You.

Thank You, Beloved, for choosing me. Thank You, for the gift of being born into a Catholic home. Thank You, Beloved for the awesome gift of my Catholic Faith that makes me a member of Your Body, the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

I am not worthy but thank You for choosing me despite my unworthiness.
