Come after me

1 Corinthians 15:3-8, 11, Luke 5:1-11
Isaiah 6:1-2A, 3-8
My Love, Beloved of my soul,
Isaiah saw You seated on Your throne in splendour and around You were the seraphim who proclaimed Your holiness without ceasing. The prophet became aware of his sinfulness and cried out in his misery that he was unclean. A seraph then touched his lips with a fiery ember removing his wickedness, purging him from sin and declaring him clean. He was then ready to say yes when he heard You say, "Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?" And he responded, "Here I am, send me!"
My Beloved Lord and my God, the waters of baptism have cleansed me and set me apart as a child of God. I have been given a glorious mission to make You known and loved by the witness of my life. Once again I say, as I have said so often in the past, Here I am, send me!" Use me, Lord, just as You will and in any way that You will. I am ready.
Psalm 138:1-5, 7-8
My Love, Beloved of my soul,
Grant that I may sing Your praises always. May I never cease to speak about all the wonders You have done in my life. Give me a heart that is filled with gratitude for You have blessed me and all those I love immensely.
Thank You for Your kindness to me. Thank You for always answering me when I called. Thank You for understanding my weaknesses and my inability to endure suffering and for relieving me from the weight of the cross each time I cried out to You for help.
Thank You for the grace and strength I receive in the Holy Eucharist. Thank You for forgiveness of all my sins in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Thank You for Your promise that You will never leave me or forsake me and that You will take me home, at last, to be with You forever in heaven.
1 Corinthians 15:3-8, 11
My Love, Beloved of my soul,
This is the Good News in a nutshell as Paul makes known to the people of Corinth:
Brothers and sisters,
I handed on to you as of first importance what I also received:
that Christ died for our sins
in accordance with the Scriptures;
that he was buried;
that he was raised on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures;
that he appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve.
After that, he appeared to more
than five hundred brothers at once,
most of whom are still living,
though some have fallen asleep.
After that he appeared to James,
then to all the apostles.
Last of all, as to one abnormally born,
he appeared to me.
Therefore, whether it be I or they,
so we preach and so you believed.
This is what every baptized Christian must people. In this awesome Sacrament, we are washed clean of original sin, we are grafted into Your Body, we become members of Your Church and as Catholics, we are even more privileged for we are members of the One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic Church that You founded with Peter as its visible head.
This is the unchanging Good News, that will be preached to the ends of the earth, to all nations and all peoples until You come again, there is no other. For there is no other Name by which we may be saved but the Name that is above every other name - our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Luke 5:1-11
My Love, Beloved of my soul,
Today's Gospel passage begins with the words, 'While the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening to the word of God.' Just like the people in the crowd, may I always draw close and press in on You and listen with hungry heart and thirsty spirit to Your Word.
Of all the boats around, You chose to sit in the boat belonging to Peter. Peter's boat is a symbol of the Catholic Church with Peter as it's head. After You had finished speaking to the crowds You turned to Peter and said, "Put out into the deep water and lower your nets for a catch." We are called to risk everything, leave the safety of the shallows, and trusting in You and Your Word, we are invited to go deep, and far to find souls who are ready to receive the Good News and be saved.
Like Peter, we can always find legitimate reasons not to do as You ask saying like him, "Master, we have worked hard all night and caught nothing, but at your command, I will lower the nets." What Peter did not know was that this time around, it would be different for You were with him. Despite his reservations, he obeyed, and he was in for the surprise of his life. The great catch of fish was beyond his expectations. Immediately, he became aware that he was in the presence of the Divine and fell on his knees in repentance saying, "Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man." Peter's greatest strengths and his greatest weaknesses made him God's choice for Peter was full of love for You and therefore ready to do all You asked, he was also ready to admit when he was wrong and beg pardon and forgiveness. His repentance was spectacular and Your response was even more astounding for You said to him, "Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men." And the passage ends with the words that are addressed to each of us who desire to follow You closely, 'They left everything and followed him.'
May I never be afraid to risk all, give up all happily, and follow You wherever You lead me. Amen.
