Hebrews 12:4-7, 11-15

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

Today, the writer of this letter reminds us that being a faithful disciple is no easy task. We are called to be obedient, humble, faithful, loving, kind, and when we are tempted we are required to fight it even to the point of martyrdom. How weak I am Beloved when compared to those great saints who laid down their life for You and for the sake of the Gospel.

They were prepared to endure the greatest persecutions and suffering but they would not deny You. Grant that I too follow their example and not give up at the first hardship.

Help me not to become over despondent when I am disciplined by God. I deserve correction how else will I learn not to err in the same way again. Help me Beloved, supply the grace I need to remain faithful every moment of every day. Help me to be a good spouse, mother, friend, neighbour, and member of the Church. May I never be the cause of division rather may strive for peace and unity according to Your will. Amen.

Psalm 103:1-2, 13-14, 17-18A

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

Who do I have in all of earth and heaven but You, my Lord and my God? Bless me, bless those I love and all whom I pray for each day. Give me a heart full of gratitude for You are always so good, kind, and generous.

Thank You, Father, for not punishing me as I deserve but for always showing me compassion and for dealing with me tenderly and mercifully when I fall.

Continue to show mercy to me Beloved, and all those I love for as long as we live. Keep us faithful to the end.

Mark 6:1-6

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

The people of Your native place assumed they knew You. They watched You grow from a boy to a man. They knew Your Mother and foster father and their expectations of You were as narrow as their judgment.

They were wonder-struck when they heard You read Scripture and speak about what You had just read. They were given insights that they never had nor heard before. But because they had pegged You and labelled You, they were unable to break free from their prejudices and were unable to accept You as You were, different from all they had imagined or experienced before. So they rejected You.

It was their loss. Their lack of faith prevented them from receiving all that You desired to give them.

It is like that with us as well. You wish to pour Your gifts upon us but our lack of faith in You hinders You from giving us all that You desire to.

Help us Lord to break free of our narrow vision and expectations and to have an open, childlike expectant faith so You can have Your way and will in our lives always.
