Isaiah 42:1-4, 6-7

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

Centuries before the incarnation the prophet Isaiah spoke of You. In obedience to the will of Your Father, You came into the world as one like us in all things save sin in order to redeem the world.

You are the Son of Justice to whom has been given all authority and power. You came to reveal to us the Face of the Father, the Face of Mercy and Love. We thank You for Your great love of sinners, the weak, the outcast, the marginalized, the forgotten of the world. The prophet puts it well, "A bruised reed he shall not break, and a smoldering wick he shall not quench." Until justice is established in the whole world. Thank You for the mission entrusted to each of the baptized to spread the Good News of Your Word.

You are visible Covenant of Love made by the Father with His children. God Himself formed You from His Own Being, God from God, Light from Light, True God from True God also clothed You in Human Flesh in order to make You a Light to the Nations, to open our eyes to the Truth, to set us free from bondage and captivity to sin, and to lead us to the freedom that belongs to the sons and daughters of God.

Thank You, my Lord and my God.

Psalm 29:1-4, 9-10

The psalmist foresees what will happen at Your Baptism in the River Jordan and invites us, the family of God, to praise Him for what He has done for us in You and through You. We are called to adore You who are dressed in the Holy Attire of Human Flesh - sinless and pure so You could be offered up as an atoning sacrifice pleasing to the Father in order to take away the sins of our own tainted flesh.

Your Flesh and Blood has become food and drink for a hungry and thirsty world providing us with heavenly manna that wells up to eternal life for all those who eat and drink the Flesh and Blood of the Son of Man and the Son of God.

At Your Baptism the voice of the Lord was heard thundering across the waters, "You are my beloved Son; with You, I am well pleased."

Acts 10:34-38

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

Thank You that You came for all humanity. All who believe in You are saved. St. Peter says, anyone who fears You and honestly strives to live an upright life is accepted by You.

Anointed with the power of the Holy Spirit You walked on the earth as one of us in all things save sin in order to show us the Way to the Father. The Way to the Father is the Way of Suffering and the Way of the Cross there is no other. To truly love as You did, Beloved is to lay down our lives for the other and this is the work of a lifetime. Thank You for the healing power that we receive through the Sacraments.  You went about doing good, teaching, preaching, and healing and we too are called by virtue of our baptism to imitate You. Help us, Lord, to live a life of grace.

Luke 3:15-16, 21-22

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

John the Baptism teaches us how to be humble. No matter how highly the world may esteem us we know, as all the great saints do, that we are only Your instruments. Only to the extent that we allow You can You use us. Some are used mightily because they are humble, open, and generous in their response to Your invitation as St. John the Baptist was.

May I always bear in mind that I am unworthy and but for grace, I would be cast in the outer darkness. Keep me always grateful for all You have done for me and help me to always say yes to all You ask of me. Amen.
