Hebrews 2:5-12, Psalm 8:2AB, 5-9, Mark 1:21-28

Hebrews 2:5-12

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

On the road to Emmaus, You accompanied the two disciples and opened their minds to understand how passages in Scripture testified to You. In the same way, the writer of the Letter to the Hebrews interprets this telling verse in the psalm:

What is man that you are mindful of him,
or the son of man that you care for him?
You made him for a little while lower than the angels;
you crowned him with glory and honor,
subjecting all things under his feet.

Beloved, it is right that after the Father make You for a little while lower than the angels, and after You took upon Yourself the shame and punishment of all mankind, that He would raise You up and give You a place of glory and honour and a Name that is higher than any other. And we ourselves, Beloved, for whom You lay down Your life, and who believe in Your Name, are given a share in that same glory for we are members of Your Body.

Psalm 8:2AB, 5-9

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

It is good that we are familiar with the sacred books of both the Old Testament and the New for only then will we understand how the New is veiled in the Old and the Old shines a powerful light on the New.

When we read references to the Son of Man in the Old Testament we will not know what it means unless we see how You referred to Yourself as the Son of Man.

All that is in heaven, on earth, and under the earth is subject to You and You have authority, rule, and power over all. It is the will of the Father that every knee shall bow, and every tongue will confess to the glory of God, that You alone are Lord. There is no other.

Mark 1:21-28

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

All the miracles You performed reveals that You had command over nature, as well as in the physical and spiritual realm. Demons trembled at Your Name. They were helpless in Your Presence for they knew that the Incarnation had virtually put an end to their dominion. Your triumph over evil would come when You would be put to death to which You submitted willingly.

Your passion, leading to Your death after Your terrible execution on the Cross, was the beginning of a new era. You put an end to the dominion of evil and death and gave new hope to the world.

Demons continue to tremble before You. The hour is not long now Beloved, before Your triumphant return again. Maranatha! Lord Jesus, Maranatha!
