DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS
Glory to you, O Christ, proclaimed to the Gentiles.
Glory to you, O Christ, believed in throughout the world.
Glory to you, O Christ, believed in throughout the world.
1 Tim 3:16
1 John 4:11-18, Psalm 72:1-2, 10, 12-13, Mark 6:45-52
1 John 4:11-18
My Love, Beloved of my soul,
John was the beloved disciple. He rested on Your breast. He knew You. He was privileged to receive Your Mother into his home and she lived with him until the end of her earthly life. He knew Love because he knew You intimately as did the rest of the Apostles, and so when he speaks of love we can believe him.
If I say I love God but hate my neighbour I am a liar. But if I love everyone around me then I can be certain that God remains in me and I, in God. You have given us the marvellous gift of the Holy Spirit who abides in us and reveals to us all about You and the Father. I believe my Beloved that You are the Son of the Living God. Thank You for the gift of faith that enables me to believe this truth.
Sometimes fear, anxiety, worry, disturb my peace and the evangelist reminds me that if I am fearful then love does not dwell in me. Fear reveals a lack of faith in the You who loved me so much You laid down Your life for me.
I believe in Your love for Me my Beloved, help my unbelief.
Psalm 72:1-2, 10, 12-13
My Love, Beloved of my soul,
I long for the day when every man, woman and child will know that You are the Lord of Lords and King of Kings and will fall down and pay You homage as did the Magi and all who have come to believe through the ages.
You are the Son of God, the Savior of the world sent by the Father to take away the sins of all the world. Grant my Beloved, that we who believe will not shy away from witnessing to the world by our lives that salvation comes from no other Name but Yours. This is the Father's will, that whoever believes in His Son is saved.
Give us a heart for the poor whom You love so dearly my Lord and we ourselves will find joy and peace.
Mark 6:45-52
My Love, Beloved of my soul,
Mark goes on to narrate what happened after You fed the five thousand. You sent the disciples off by boat, You dismissed the crowd only You know how long it took. In our own times, we see how everyone wants to be blessed, touched, and healed by famous spiritual leaders and You were so much greater and more powerful than the religious leaders.
Once all had left You went to the mountain to pray. You needed to fellowship with Your Abba. You needed to be renewed, refreshed, and replenished in His Love and His Presence. So it must be with us, with me, Beloved.
It was evening when You looked across the sea from the shore and saw the disciples struggling in the boat as the winds were against them. Many of them were skilled fishermen but they were being tossed about by the waves and the wind. Then You came to them walking on the water and they were terrified thinking You were a ghost. Then they heard Your voice, "Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!" You got into the boat and immediately the storm died down and they were surprised. These men who had witnessed all the miracles of healings, the miracle at Cana, the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fish were still astounded and Mark concludes that they were astounded despite all they knew of You because their hearts were hardened.
Is it any different with us, with me, Beloved? All my life I have experienced God's love, kindness, and favour and yet I go about fearful, sad, and distressed. Little or nothing can disturb my peace. I lack the generosity to love selflessly, to give wholly of myself, to believe that love conquers all. I lack the courage to believe unconditionally with the faith of a child. Today, You say to me, "Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!"
