1 John 2:22-28, Psalm 98:1-4, John 1:19-28

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Memorial of Saints Basil the Great and Gregory Nazianzen, Bishops and Doctors of the Church
In times, past, God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets:
in these last days, he has spoken to us through his Son. Heb 1:1-2

1 John 2:22-28, Psalm 98:1-4, John 1:19-28

1 John 2:22-28

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

I deny You when I permit my fears to drown my faith in You. You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God. I have been grafted into Your Body and the life of the Holy Spirit courses through my soul. I am a child of God and heir to the Kingdom of heaven. This is the Father's will that whoever belongs to You, whoever confesses You as Lord, will be saved.

Psalm 98:1-4

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

If we read the news it would seem that the world is doomed but this is not true.  All the evil in the world seems to get a mention in the headlines but the truth is that all the ends of the earth have indeed seen the saving power of God.

There are billions of people who sing songs in praise of You and are giving thanks for all You have done in their lives. There are people who have consecrated their lives to You and live hidden from the world and they sing Your praises night and day.

You have saved us, Lord, we know it and we will testify that we have been saved by Your Name - the only Name given to the world by which all may be saved.

John 1:19-28

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

Like John, I too am called to prepare the way. I am called to be a light in the world. All I may be is a tiny little light by whose flickering flame someone can only take one step forward but I am called to be that little light and shine faithfully. We all shine with Your Light Beloved, a light that was lit in our souls at Baptism.

Our lives must be like that of John's crying out in the wilderness telling the world that there is a sure way that leads straight to the heart of God, and that is through You, His only Son.

No one is worthy to receive You Beloved and yet You come into our sinful hearts in the Eucharist and You become one with us in a union more close, more real, and more powerful than any human union could ever be. We, like John, are unworthy to even loosen the strap of Your sandals and yet it is You who come to us. Thank You for being our Good Shepherd, our Brother, our Spouse, our Friend.
