1 John 1:2:3-11

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

The evangelist of love reminds us that when we keep Your commandments we can be sure that we know You. We know we are in union with You when we keep Your Word for in keeping Your Word the love of God is made perfect in us. To know Your Word Beloved, we must be familiar with it. We need to spend reading, contemplating, meditating, and keeping it in our heart only then can it become the rule of our lives.

You are the Light of the World that illumines the heavens and the earth and our lives. In You, there is no darkness. Anyone who is in darkness is in ignorance and sin and yet if we lack love, we who claim to know You walk in darkness, for the absence of love blinds us to the truth.

Psalm 96:1-3, 5-6

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

We have a new song in our hearts and joy in our souls because You came into the world and reconciled it to the Father. You are our Savior, our Redeemer, our Messiah. You took upon Yourself our anguish, our sins, our guilt, our shame, our suffering and You bore the punishment and death that was ours.

Your glory now shines, splendour and majesty are Yours. Your rule the nations and all who believe are commanded to go out into the world and spread the good news that we are saved through the shedding of the Blood of the Lamb.

Luke 2:22-35

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

The ritual of purification required Mary and Joseph to bring You to the temple to present You to the Lord. As the firstborn son You were to be consecrated to the Father and an offering was to be made by a sacrifice of a pair of turtledoves or pigeons.

Both You and Mary were sinless. Mary and Joseph both knew that You were the Son of God and yet in perfect humility and obedience submitted themselves to the law of Moses.

Prompted by the Holy Spirit, Simeon who was assured that he would not die until he saw the Messiah came to meet Mary. Taking You in his arms he said,

“Lord, now let your servant go in peace;
your word has been fulfilled:
my own eyes have seen the salvation
which you prepared in the sight of every people,
a light to reveal you to the nations
and the glory of your people Israel.”

Mary and Joseph heard the words spoken with great wonder and then after blessing them he turned to Mary and said,

“Behold, this child is destined
for the fall and rise of many in Israel,
and to be a sign that will be contradicted
(and you yourself a sword will pierce)
so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

Beloved, the shadow of the Cross lay upon You and Mary from the moment of Your conception in Mary's womb. The Shadow of the  Cross fell upon the earth from the moment sin entered it for in that instant God decided to send a Savior to redeem His lost children.

There is no greater love than this that we lay down our lives for one another just as You, the Son of Man and the Son of God did.
