1 Corinthians 3:18-23, Psalm 24:1-6, Luke 5:1-11

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Come after me, says the Lord,
and I will make you fishers of men. Mt 4:19
1 Corinthians 3:18-23, Psalm 24:1-6, Luke 5:1-11

1 Corinthians 3:18-23

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

We live in an age and in a culture that is morally decadent and corrupt. Those who consider themselves enlightened by the spirit of the age are spreading the evil tentacles of their godless beliefs and enforcing laws that are outsourced from hell and the Satan himself on an ignorant world.

St. Paul's message to the faithful today is timeless. The wisdom of God is considered foolishness to the world. However, we must be prepared to be considered fools for You and for the Gospel. The wicked will perish in their own folly for there is no life in lies only corruption and death.

Those who consider themselves enlightened and above the law of God and who spend all their energy on spreading lies will not succeed for too long for they are fighting against good and good always triumphs over evil. For all that is good has its origin in You who has triumphed on the Cross of suffering and shame - foolishness to the wicked but the awesome, victorious folly of God that saves.
Psalm 24:1-6

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

When the world, hell, the flesh, and Satan, assail the Church we get so caught up in the turbulence we forget that the Church and the world belong to You.

You will get us safely through this storm as You have done over and over again since You established Your Church. She is Your Bride and You will not forsake her. She is precious in Your sight and You will not permit her walls to be besieged by the Enemy without or within.
Luke 5:1-11

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

You have revealed to the world and the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven and all those who accept it will be saved. You force no one. We are free to choose eternity with You or eternity in the place of the damned.

There were two boats on the shore. Simon and his friends were washing their nets after a long, fruitless night of fishing. You chose the boat belonging to Simon and You taught the crowd.  You then asked him to put out into the deep. You told to let down the nets for a catch.

One can almost laugh at the incredulous look on Simon's face at Your request. He was the expert, he had toiled all night and had caught nothing. There was no fish to be had that day. But there was something in Your voice and in Your look when You asked him to do so. He could not refuse. So he said,

"Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets."

When we obey You, Beloved, no matter how incredulous we may feel about what You ask of us, we like Simon, will be brought to our knees in humility as we witness Your awesome power at work. Poor Simon, his jaw dropped when he looked at the catch of fish.

He fell on his knees and said,

"Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man."

You spoke the words that You constantly speak to all who follow You, gently, kindly, tenderly, lovingly,

 "Do not be afraid;
from now on you will be catching men."

Our response to Your invitation whatever that invitation may be is to do just as Simon and his companions did.

When they brought their boats to the shore, they left everything and followed him.

Grant us the grace and the courage to do likewise my Lord. Amen.
