I chose you from the world,
to go and bear fruit that will last, says the Lord. Jn 15:16

Feast of St. Mathias, Apostle

Acts 1:15-17, 20-26, Psalm 113:1-8, John 15:9-17

Acts 1:15-17, 20-26

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

We see how, from the very beginning, it was Peter who took the lead and who was looked up to by the rest of the Apostles and disciples. They were aware that he was Your choice. He was to be the Rock upon which You built Your Church and the gates of hell would not prevail against it.

Filled with the Holy Spirit, and prompted by the prophecy in Scripture spoken through the mouth of David concerning Judas the betrayer, they were aware that they had to complete the number 12. There were the 12 tribes of Israel and there were to be 12 Apostles.

Peter did not impose his choice on the rest but lay down the guidelines which would help them choose the one who would take Judas' place. Accordingly, it was decided, that only one who had accompanied You from the start, beginning with the baptism of John and until Your Ascension into heaven would qualify to witness to Your resurrection. They picked two men Joseph and Matthias and then cast lots, leaving the choice to You and to the Holy Spirit.

So it is to this day when the successor to Peter has to be chosen. The final choice is Yours Beloved, this is why we are to respect Your Vicar on earth. He demands our allegiance and our loyalty. There is enough division in the world, the members of Your Church are called to unity, trusting You to keep Your promises to be with her through all the dangers, evil, and snares that are constantly working to bring her down. She is Your Bride and You, her Bridegroom. With You she is safe.

Psalm 113:1-8

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

We know nothing about Matthais the one chosen to take the place of Judas the betrayer. It does not matter, he was Your choice and he did the work that was asked of him quietly and unobtrusively like so many who labor in Your vineyard. The world neither knows them nor has heard of them, but they work tirelessly and it is because of such as these that the work of the Kingdom is spread to the ends of the earth.

Let us never forget those who are out in the trenches, in mission lands where they are faced with danger, want, evil constantly. Where they have nothing but their faith to sustain them and see them through - a faith that never disappoints.

It is because of such as these that You are praised by people who would never know You but for them. They have given up all in order to make You known and loved.

Lord God, Son of the Living God, grant me the grace to do my own part in the furthering of Your Kingdom on earth. It may not be much but let me do it faithfully. May I do all that I can to assist those who work in Your Vineyard. Amen.

 John 15:9-17

Jesus said to his disciples:
"As the Father loves me, so I also love you.
Remain in my love.
If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love,
just as I have kept my Father's commandments
and remain in his love.

"I have told you this so that my joy might be in you
and your joy might be complete.
This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.
No one has greater love than this,
to lay down one's life for one's friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command you.
I no longer call you slaves,
because a slave does not know what his master is doing.
I have called you friends,
because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.
It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you
and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain,
so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.

This I command you: love one another."
