THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD
Acts 1:1-11, Psalm 47:2-3, 6-9, Ephesians 2:17-23, Mark 16:15-20
Acts 1:1-11
Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,
I thank You for the hope I have in You. The Church exults and I along with her that You will return to claim Your Bride so where You are she will be. You will present her to Your heavenly Father and there will be great rejoicing at the eternal Banquet when You will reconcile all things to Yourself.
Until that great day dawns Beloved, we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension and we recall the promise of the Angels to the Apostles who watch You ascend to the place from where You came. Our hearts are not sad for we live in hope. our faith sustains us and gives us courage. Thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. We thank You for Your life in us. We have never been without the Presence of God in our lives and in the world.
When God created the world He was immanent in His creation, then He sent You into the world so His love could become visible and tangible to us. After You accomplished Your great mission in saving and redeeming us and ensuring that we receive Your life of grace through the Sacraments, You sent Your Holy Spirit to make His home in us. You did not leave us orphans but we have assured us that we are God's children and that we can approach the throne of grace and mercy always. Thank You, Father, for the incarnation and making God our Food and Drink which wells up to eternal life for all who believe.
Psalm 47:2-3, 6-9
Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,
I thank You that we are an Easter people, we are a Resurrection people, we are an Ascension people, and we would not trade what You have given us for anything that this world can offer.
I thank You for the wonderful song that we have in our hearts. We rejoice and are glad and along with the angels and saints, our own voices ring out with glad and joyful praise at the greatness of our God.
After accomplishing Your Father's will You went up to heaven with great rejoicing. You crushed the head of Satan, You defeated death, and now You are seated at the right hand of the Father where You plead for us sinners night and day.
You are the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and You never forget for an instant that we belong to You and You will not rest until all of us whom You have redeemed at so great a price will be taken up with You so that where You are Beloved we too shall someday be.
Ephesians 2:17-23
Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,
The prayer that St. Paul makes for the members of the Church is awesome and is the work of the One whom You sent to live in the Church and in each of us who are Your brothers and sisters.
We thank You for the gift of the Spirit that is given to each of the baptized and we can exercise them with power in order to witness to the life of grace that is poured upon us through the worthy reception of the Sacraments You instituted. We are no longer orphans but sons and daughters of the Most High God. All that is Yours we share as His adopted children and this is possible because You have made us co-heirs with Yourself. You call us Your sisters, brothers, and friends.
You are seated in the highest heavens with the Father of glory
and in the words of St. Paul, "Far above every principality, authority, power, and dominion, and every name that is named not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things beneath his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of the one who fills all things in every way."
Thank You, Beloved, that I am in You and You in me and that You and I are one.
Mark 16:15-20
Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,
Because we have received much, much is also demanded of us. You have given us our mission and we are called to have a fire in our hearts that will not let us rest until all have heard the Good News that saves. We are not saved in isolation Beloved, we are brothers and sisters and we are called to feel the burden of those countless numbers who have not heard of You, do not believe in You and thus are unable to experience the awesome wonder of knowing that we are children of God and heirs to the Kingdom of Heaven.
It is no wonder that people have been prepared to shed their blood in order to witness to You and to proclaim from the housetops that there is no God but the one true God in Three Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Thank You, Father, for creating me, thank You Beloved for saving me, that You Holy Spirit for living in me, making my body God's holy temple, and for enabling me to carry out in own little way the mission entrusted to me.
Thank You for the Church and thank You for Your promise that You will remain with her always. No matter how dark the world Your Light will shine brightly in and through her. She is the beacon on the hilltop and many will come to her and be saved.
