1 Samuel 4:1-11

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

Israel lost the battle to the Philistines not because they were weaker than the enemy but because they had sinned. They assumed that if the Ark of the Covenant was with them they would triumph against the enemy but such was not the case. When we are entrenched in sin then death is the sure consequence. We cannot manipulate God nor can can we second guess Him. The truth is clear but we desire not to see it. We blind ourselves, make up excuses, talk ourselves into believing that sin is everything else but what it truly is .

The Word of God is clear - the wages of sin is death and we are responsible for the loss of lives for we have refused to believe that the price for grave sin is death, eternal death.

Psalm 44:10-11, 14-15, 24-25

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

As Christians it is not enough to boast that we are better than the rest of the world. It is not enough to be Christian in name. We cannot pay lip service to God but ignore His commands. We are invited and called to be like our Father in Heaven, holy and perfect. Sin is sin no matter how we try to cover it up and no matter what fancy names we may give it. We can call sin a trait of character over which we have no control and we can fool ourselves into believing that we have been born that way. However, a lie is a lie no matter how we try to dress it up. We can drink poison from a jar marked honey and we will die despite what the label says for words do not change the truth.

Grant us wisdom O Lord. Wake us up to the truth before it is too late. In Your mercy Beloved, save us.

Mark 1:40-45

A leper came to him and kneeling down begged him and said,
"If you wish, you can make me clean."
Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand,
touched the leper, and said to him,
"I do will it. Be made clean."
The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean.
Then, warning him sternly, he dismissed him at once.
Then he said to him, "See that you tell no one anything,
but go, show yourself to the priest
and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed;
that will be proof for them."
The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter.
He spread the report abroad
so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly.
He remained outside in deserted places,

and people kept coming to him from everywhere.

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

The leprosy of sin has a cure - if we come to You truly repentant and in all humility throw ourselves upon Your mercy, You will heal us. But we must follow the prescription of the Divine Physician. While we will always find You ready to forgive our sins we must follow Your command and show ourselves to the priest in the Sacrament of Confession. The leper was healed of his terrible affliction but You instructed him to show himself to the priest as required by the law. It is only in the Sacrament of healing instituted by You that the effects of sin are removed. Sin maims our spirit and only when we confess our sins to the priest where we meet You face to face, are we completely forgiven and the sin is removed from us and cast into the infinite ocean of God's mercy.
