FEAST OF ST.LUKE - EVANGELIST

2 Timothy 4:10-17, Psalm 145:10-13, 17-19,
Luke 10:1-9

2 Timothy 4:10-17

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

We have Luke, a Greek physician converted by the preaching of St. Paul as an evangelists who faithfully recorded the events concerning the Gospel that gives the world life. He also wrote the Acts of the Apostles which gives us a glimpse of the life of the Apostles after Your Ascension. He was a faithful companion to Paul and accompanied him sharing the joys and the difficulties that are part of being a missionary.

We thank You and the Holy Spirit for the grace that made it possible for the Church to give us such an wonderful example of how a true disciple ought to live. How to give all in order that we may receive all.

St. Luke, pray for us. May many more be saved through the Word that you so faithfully recorded so that many may believe and receive life.

Psalm 145:10-13, 17-19

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

Your friends are all who make You known and loved in the world. Who make for You faithful followers and disciples by taking Your command seriously to live the Gospel in season and out of season. Their lives are a living testament of all that they believe and hold to be true. They praise You and give You honor, worship, and thanksgiving in all the circumstances of their lives. To them everything is good for everything they receive is given to them from Your hand.

They make for You disciples and followers from every race, every tribe, every language, every nation so that one day every knee shall bow and every tongue confess to the glory of the Father that You are truly our Lord and our God.

Luke 10:1-9

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

Today I offer grateful thanks to all who heard You, believed in You, followed You, obeyed Your command to go out into the world and preach the Good News of our salvation. They paid heed to Your invitation and because they did we have heard and we are saved.

We in turn receive the same invitation, the same call when we are baptized and grafted into Your Body. Grant O Lord that someone may say that they have been saved because I like so many countless disciples before me, beginning with Your Apostles, and the many through the ages who were persecuted, tortured, ill treated, violently abused in every way, imprisoned, suffered untold hardship and even lay down their lives in order that many may come to believe the Truth that You are the Son of God, the Savior of the world who came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, became Man, suffered, died, was buried and rose again so that we may rise again from the eternal death of sin and take our place in the Kingdom that the Father has prepared for us.

Grant us O Lord the grace to become true witnesses of Your love just as St. Luke was. Amen.
