Colossians 1:1-8, Psalm 52:10-11, Luke 4:38-44

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

The Lord sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor
and to proclaim liberty to captives. Lk 4:18

Colossians 1:1-8, Psalm 52:10-11, Luke 4:38-44

Colossians 1:1-8

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

There was no false modesty in Paul. He knew who he was and the mission to which he was called through no merit of his own but through Your gracious goodness and mercy. An Apostle to the Gentiles, he was the greatest missionary that ever lived. He believed passionately in the Good News of our salvation and he preached it tirelessly night and day. He lived the Gospel in season and out of season and he gloried when the people of the regions where he had evangelized came to believe and became Your faithful disciples and followers.

He took no credit for himself but gave thanks to God and praised the Holy Spirit who brought the conversion of so many. Grant Beloved, that in my own small way and in my own little mission field I may have the same burning desire to make you known and loved for in this alone is the salvation of people everywhere.

Psalm 52:10-11

Dear Love, beloved bridegroom of my soul,

You are a God of unfathomable love and infinite mercy. I believe in You. I hope in You and I place all my trust in You. Grant O Lord that I may put my roots deep into You so I may flourish through grace and bear good fruit that will last. Thank You for the great mercy shown to me a weak, poor, miserable sinner.

Thank You for lifting me up from the dung hill where I wallowed in sin and for washing me clean with Your precious blood. Thank You for filling me with Your love and Your Spirit. Thank You for making the Father known to me. Thank You for sharing Your inheritance with me. My Lord and my God I adore You, I worship You, I trust in You.

Luke 4:38-44

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

Simon Peter's mother-in-law must have been a truly lovable person because no sooner had You entered his house the people there clamored around You and interceded with You to heal her as she was in bed struck with a fever. You responded immediately to their plea and rebuked the fever which left her. What happens next confirms that she was a woman who served joyfully - in the words of St. Luke we read that she got up at once and waiting on them.

If we have been granted good health, sound minds and healthy bodies we are  to use it in the service of those around us, those in need, those less fortunate than we are. We are called to intercede for each other with love and  compassion urging God to heal, to restore, to make whole so they may rise up and continue the work of God  entrusted to them as well.

Word of what You had done spread and people from all over brought their sick to You and You laid hands on each one of them and healed them. It was a day of great rejoicing. Tirelessly You heard each one, cured each one until it was daybreak and exhausted You sought to rest in Your Father in order to be refreshed, and replenished. Although You never ceased to be God You were a man and like all men You were tired and in need of rest and for You the only way, the best way was to seek Your Father and spend hours with Him. The time You spent in prayer made it possible for You to cope with the exhausting, unforgiving, punishing schedule You set for Yourself as You went walking from one town to another preaching, teaching, healing and making known the Father's love to all who would listen and believe.  Help  me never to forget that I too have been given a mission and humble though it may be it is necessary for it is God's work entrusted to me. With Your help O Lord may I strive in my own little way to be as zealous as You, the Apostles, St. Paul and so many great saints were.
