1 Corinthians 4:1-5
1 Let everyone then see us as
the servants of Christ and stewards of the secret works of God. 2 Being
stewards, faithfulness shall be demanded of us;
My Beloved, this morning at Holy Mass the catechists will pledge to carry
out their mission faithfully and remain true to Your teachings and the
teachings of Holy Mother Church. These
two verses written by St. Paul seem to be written just for us today. May I always remember that it is You alone I
serve, it is Your Word alone I proclaim, it s You alone that I make known and
loved. Grant me the grace to serve You
joyfully, willingly, obediently, promptly, lovingly and faithfully always. Amen.
3 Trust in the Lord and do good, dwell in the land and
live on it.
4 Make the Lord your delight, and he will grant your
heart’s desire.
5 Commit your way to the Lord; put your trust in him and
let him act.
My Love, You are my life, my hope, my joy, my refuge and my
shelter. The psalmist reminds me that if
I trust You and do what is good, I will live peacefully in the place to which You
have brought me. I delight in You and
because I do, I receive from You all that is good and my heart is
satisfied. My life I have surrendered to
You totally. I trust You to lead me,
guide me, inspire me in all I think say and do.
If I am faithful, You will be even more faithful. You have been my refuge in the times of my
distress. You have helped to calm my
fears and dry my tears, You have rescued me from the clutches of sin and set me
free. You have saved me and have
permitted me to make my home in Your heart.

My Beloved, the disciples of John the Baptist were aware
that he was preparing the way for You, the Bridegroom. Hearts were to be made ready for Your coming
by fasting, prayer, self-denial and austerity.
There was a watchful waiting in anticipation of what was to come. And then You came, our God of love,
gentleness, compassion, goodness, kindness, mercy and awesome power. You came to heal, to fill, to give us a
foretaste of heaven itself. Why would
Your disciples fast – they were with the Bridegroom and they were feasting at
Your banquet of joy and delight however, You did
warn them that You would be returning to Your Father’s house after fulfilling His
will and then Your disciples too would fast and yearn for the day when they too
would be united with You forever in heaven in the place prepared from them eternally.
You my Beloved are the heady new wine. You provide us with the festal garments of
justice, righteousness, mercy and peace.
Who would want the old that has become tired and stale if they had the
choice of being filled and robed with the freshness, joy and beauty of the new?
