MONDAY OF WEEK 18 IN ORDINARY TIME - 2024

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Man does not live on bread alone,
but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. MT 4:4

JEREMIAH 28:1-17

My Soul's Beloved,

The world abounds in false prophets like Hananiah, they tell the world what they desire to hear. False prophets tell you that lies are truth and truth are lies. They tell you that death is life. True love means doing what you want when you want with no thought for others. Your personal desires supersede everyone else's. The more you have the happier you will be. The bigger the house, the more expensive the trinkets and gadgets, the more power you wield, the greater your influence to wrest what you wish with no thought of who is affected because it is all about you. These are the lies the gurus of the world propagate and the ignorant fall for them.

The greater, lying prophets are the ones who push the private agendas of the powerful, ruthless, wealthy few to squeeze the many by preaching a gospel of climate change, abortion, and the destruction of families and children. They do everything in their power to spread a sterile culture encouraging the weak to live a life of debauchery that kills not just the body but also the soul. This is why the Catholic Church is hated and discredited, ridiculed, and maligned even by Christians because she alone stands for Truth, Beauty, and Goodness. Many within her are evil and wicked and are always at work to destroy her, they will never prevail, for You O Lord, have assured Your Bride that she is the beacon on the hill and all who desire her may ascend to find in her their God who makes His home in her in fullness.

False prophets and those who believe them will be destroyed just as Hananiah was while the Word of God will be fulfilled, the power of God will prevail, and the will of God will triumph in every age always and everywhere.

The prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah, ‘Listen carefully, Hananiah: the Lord has not sent you; and thanks to you this people are now relying on what is false. Hence – the Lord says this, “I am going to throw you off the face of the earth: you are going to die this year since you have preached apostasy from the Lord.”’
The prophet Hananiah died the same year, in the seventh month.

PSALM 118(119):29,43,79-80,95,102

Lord, teach me your statutes.
Keep me from the way of error
  and teach me your law.
Do not take the word of truth from my mouth
for I trust in your decrees.
Let your faithful turn to me,
  those who know your will.
Let my heart be blameless in your statutes
  lest I be ashamed.
Though the wicked lie in wait to destroy me
  yet I ponder your will.
I have not turned from your decrees;
  you yourself have taught me.
Lord, teach me your statutes.

MATTHEW 14:13-21

My Soul's Beloved,

Thank You for reminding us that You can multiply the little we have if we bring it trustfully to You confident that You can do for us and those we love what we cannot. Grant us the grace to offer our few loaves and fish to You, each day in total surrender. Grant us the grace to hold nothing back and not to worry about our needs for tomorrow for tomorrow is guaranteed to no one. All we have is this day, this moment and this we gladly give You, do with it what You will.

Jesus replied, ‘There is no need for them to go: give them something to eat yourselves.’ But they answered ‘All we have with us is five loaves and two fish.’ ‘Bring them here to me’ he said. He gave orders that the people were to sit down on the grass; then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven and said the blessing. And breaking the loaves handed them to his disciples who gave them to the crowds. They all ate as much as they wanted, and they collected the scraps remaining; twelve baskets full. Those who ate numbered about five thousand men, to say nothing of women and children.
