My Soul's Beloved,

While it is perfectly true that all the baptized have the Holy Spirit indwelling in us yet, we must never forget that we are sinners. Anyone who claims to be without sin is a liar.  We have within us two spirits - the Spirit of God and our own spirit and there is a real danger of us mistaking one for the other.

We can possess the confidence of St. Paul and the Apostles only when we are wed to the Church that You have founded and we submit to her Teaching Authority. St. Paul is chosen by God to be the Apostles to the Gentiles and yet he sought out Peter and the other Apostles at the beginning of his ministry because he did not want to teach error. As Your ambassador, he had to submit his credentials to the Prince of the Apostles. This is why we must always remember that while the Scriptures both Old and New are the Written Word of God inspired by the Holy Spirit there is always a real danger of false interpretation based on our own prejudices or our personal preference. When we humbly submit to the Magisterium who has Your guarantee that she always teaches without error, the glory of Your life-giving Word together with her Living Tradition together from the Sacred Deposit of our faith that illumines not only the Church but all her members. All her glory comes from the presence of the Holy Spirit who makes His home in her.

My Soul's Beloved,

The Ten Commandments were given by God to Moses on Mt. Sinai and they must be obeyed. The Beatitudes are the blueprint of the Christian life given to us by You. It gives us a roadmap to heaven. It is the Way, it reveals the Truth about the nature of the Son of God, and it is life-giving. The Ten Commandments make us aware of what we ought not to do if we do not wish to die an eternal death. The Beatitudes tell us how we must live in order to receive eternal life.

Unless I know the Commandments I will not know what can and will separate me from the love of God and unless I model my life on the blueprint You gave of Your life as You taught in Your Sermon on the Mount I will live a life bereft of salt and light.

Keep us faithful to the end my Lord and my God.
