MEMORIAL OF THE QUEENSHIP OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you;
blessed are you among women. LK 1:28

ISAIAH 9:1-7

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

The sin of our first parents plunged the world in darkness and its people walked in the deep shadows cast by that heinous offense against the clear command of the God of Love. The Light of the World was extinguished when the love of God was deliberately and wilfully expunged from the hearts of the ones God created in His own image and likeness. Decay and death were the inevitable consequences of that first sin.

God, our loving Father, would not permit sin to have the final word, His Eternal Word would be accorded that victory and triumph.

The work of salvation was put in motion from the moment Adam and Eve sinned and were banished from the Garden of Eden. God chose Abraham, and through him and his descendants, God formed a people for Himself. Through the centuries He carefully prepared and watched over the one He had formed and chosen to be Ark of the New Covenant.

Through her would the prophecy of Isaiah be fulfilled,

For there is a child born for us,
a son given to us
and dominion is laid on his shoulders;
and this is the name they give him:
Wonder-Counsellor, Mighty-God,
Eternal-Father, Prince-of-Peace.

Thank you, sweet Mother, for your fiat, that gave us Jesus, Your Son, and the Son of God, who is the Gate through which we enter into Paradise.

Wide is his dominion
in a peace that has no end,
for the throne of David
and for his royal power,
which he establishes and makes secure
in justice and integrity.
From this time onwards and forever,
the jealous love of the Lord of Hosts will do this.

PSALM  113:1-8

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

You choose whom You will. You raise up to the highest place whomever You will. It has always been Your way to choose the least, the little, the poor. It is only when we are completely yielded to You, totally dependant on You, that You can make of us anything You will.

From the dust he lifts up the lowly,
from the dungheap he raises the poor
to set him in the company of princes,
yes, with the princes of his people.

Mary recognized that all her dignity, her exalted place as the Mother of God, comes from God. If all generations call her blessed, it is because God chose her and God raised her up. She knows that she has done nothing to merit what has been done for her. All Mary ever did, from the moment she was conceived in her mother's womb was to allow God to do just as He willed with her.

She was the clay in the Potter's hand who permitted Him to do what He willed with her through her perfect obedience and the perfect surrender of her whole being to Him. This is why she is honored by God and by His Church. As the Queen Mother, she is now seated at the right hand of the King of Kings just as Bathsheba once sat at the right hand of her son, King Solomon.

LUKE 1:26-38

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

The hour had finally come when all the centuries of waiting would end and the culmination of God's saving work finally commence but the whole plan hinged on the consent of a young virgin. The Triune God and all the angels in heaven waited for her to say the word that would make it possible for her to conceive the Eternal Word.

The more the Church contemplated this climactic moment in salvation history that would usher in the era of the Son of Man who would make all things new, the more she understood through the wisdom of the Holy Spirit granted to her, exactly what hung in the balance of this perfect creature's yes to God.

No honor that the Church and her members offer Mary can ever compare to the honor she has received and continues to receive as the fairest of the fair daughters of the Father, the beloved Mother of the Son of God, and the most chaste spouse of the Holy Spirit.

Mary is our Queen, Mary is our Mother, Mary is the gift given to us by You, our Bridegroom, as the beloved disciple stood beneath the Cross and accepted her and took her home.

Thank You for Mary, our Mother who never fails in her intercession on our behalf. She is truly the mediatrix of all graces for at her request, You will always turn the water in our lives, not just to good wine but the best wine.

May we learn from Mary, our Mother, and our Queen to always respond to God's will in her words,

"Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.
May it be done to me according to your word."
Then the angel departed from her. In doing so we will discover that "nothing is impossible for God."
