TUESDAY OF WEEK FIFTEEN IN ORDINARY TIME - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

If today you hear his voice,
harden not your hearts. PS 95:8

ISAIAH 7:1-9

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

In times when like king Ahaz, we are terrified of situations that arise and we believe they are beyond our strength to overcome, when obstacles loom over us, and we become increasingly disheartened, Isaiah's message to the king is a message to us as well. “Pay attention, keep calm, have no fear, do not let your heart sink." You also warn Ahaz, "But if you do not stand by me, you will not stand at all.”

So often our fears close in on us, trap us, and render us helpless. In times like this, Beloved, if we only take the time to look at our past we will see how marvelously You came to our rescue and freed us each time. Even though we believed that the terrible, tragic times would never end they did, with Your help we overcame, and we were better and stronger for it. You never abandon those who are Yours. Thank You for being only a sigh away for us.

PSALM 48:2-8

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

The psalmist says that Mt. Zion is the true pole of the earth for it is the city of the Great King. Yes, Beloved, the Church You founded is Mt. Zion, You are present in Your Bride, in Your fullness as her King, her Lord, her Savior, her Redeemer, her Master, and her Bridegroom.

You O Lord are worthy of praise, this is why from the rising of the sun to its setting the Church offers the one, holy, perfect, and only acceptable and pleasing Sacrifice to the Father.

Demons tremble and flee, the enemies of Truth, are defeated, for in this sublime Memorial of the Sacrifice on Calvary the Wisdom of God, the Power of God, and the victory and triumph of the Son of God are celebrated. The world and all in it belongs to the Creator, no matter what those with worldly power and influence may think and the children of God need fear nothing for, 'God upholds His City forever.'

MATTHEW 11:20-24

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

It is a terrible thing to reject You. We have been born into Christian homes, we are baptized, we have received the Sacraments, we have grown up in an atmosphere where the faith was fostered and Christian teachings and values were handed on to us. Yes, there are times of rebellion in youth when we reject what we were taught but we grow up eventually. A time must surely come in every baptized person's life when they allow the seed of faith to take root and grow. Our faith is a gift and not all receive it.

What a tragedy it is for those of us who reject You without making the slightest effort of ever knowing You personally and giving You a chance of revealing Yourself. Let us at least give You the honor of finding out for ourselves if the little we know of You, and heard of You perhaps as children, is true, and if true, then is Truth not worth pursuing?

It would be a terrible thing if we allowed worldly pursuits to so consume us that we did not, in all the time granted to us, ask, seek, and knock and find the door the to the Kingdom of God thrown wide open for us to enter.
