THURSDAY OF WEEK FOURTEEN IN ORDINARY TIME - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Harden not your hearts today,
but listen to the voice of the Lord. PS 94:8

HOSEA 11:1-4, 8-9

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

There is no god but You my God, there is none that speaks like You, loves like You, is as tender, merciful, and compassionate as You. We are a sinful people, born in sin, and even the waters of baptism cannot rid us of concupiscence, the inheritance of Adam's sin.

How You love us yet we reject Your love. Thank You, Beloved, for the infinite patience with which You deal with us undeserving though we are of Your infinite love and patience.

Although I deserve death, thank You for giving me life in You, Beloved.

I led them with reins of kindness, with leading-strings of love. I was like someone who lifts an infant close against his cheek; stooping down to him I gave him his food. Ephraim, how could I part with you? I am the Holy One in your midst and have no wish to destroy.

PSALM 80:2-3, 15-16

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

Salvation is found in Your Name alone. Thank You, Beloved, for Your Face that is imprinted on us in Baptism through the Living Presence of the Holy Spirit, abiding in the sanctuary of our soul.

You are only a sigh away from us. Before we can utter a word You are with us. Thank You for being our help, our joy, our peace, and our hope.

Beloved, we know that this chastisement that has been visited on the world will turn to good, for You have the power to draw good from evil. We have only to look at the Cross to recognize this truth. There is no evil as reprehensible and horrifying as the evil of the Cross but through it God wrought the salvation of the world. The fear of death and the power of Satan are vanquished forever.

MATTHEW 10:7-15

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

You hand picked the Twelve from a group of disciples. They were to form the close inner circle and they would be the foundation stones on which You would build Your Church.

The mandate given to them is the mandate that is handed down to their successors in an unbroken line and so it will be until You return. This is what You have commanded and the Holy Spirit ensures that this is so. The Church has been given all authority and the power to, 'Proclaim that the kingdom of heaven is close at hand. Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out devils.' The Sacraments of Initiation do just that by giving us new life in You.

Let us be generous to those who give up their lives in service of the Church, priests, as well as religious men and women. They take vows so they will be unencumbered by the things of the world in order to spend themselves for us.

Let us be wary of freely criticizing and putting down God's anointed. Yes there are sinners among them, yes, they are to be held to greater accountability, and some have failed miserably. But God's choice and seal on them is irrevocable: And if anyone does not welcome you or listen to what you have to say, as you walk out of the house or town shake the dust from your feet. I tell you solemnly, on the day of Judgement it will not go as hard with the land of Sodom and Gomorrah as with that town.’
