THURSDAY OF WEEK FIFTEEN IN ORDINARY TIME - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

My soul is waiting for the Lord, I count on his word. PS 129:5

ISAIAH 26:7-9,12,16-19

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

When times are difficult and I am fearful grant me the grace to remember that with You there is always hope. Even if I have fallen in the dust You will raise me up. You will walk with me, You will remain in me, You will strengthen me. I can trust You always to make my path smooth.

I need not be afraid of Your judgments for You know my weaknesses and You provide all the help I need to walk in the light of Your love. You forgive all my sins and You keep no record of my past sins. Your mercy and Your love are endless. With You is life, radiant life that never ends.

PSALM 102:13-21

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

May my mouth never cease to praise You for all You have done for me. You did not let me perish in my sins but in Your great love You took pity on me. You came to call sinners to repentance and You will forgive as many times as I ask to be forgiven. You never tire of showing mercy for You are full of tenderness and compassion for Your poor, weak, sinful children.

You look down on us and You watch over us ready to reach out should we stumble. You have appointed angels to guard us and pray for us. You provide all the help we need to keep us from eternal death, for this is the age of Your mercy and grace.

My Beloved, may I do my small part in carrying out the mission entrusted to all those who are called by Your Name so that future generations will continue to glorify You, worship You, and offer You unending praise. Thank You for coming for little ones, for the sinner, for the one in shackles and in prison. Thank You for hearing the cries and the groans of all who suffer. You who are God but became like us so You can empathize with our pain. Thank You for never taking Your loving gaze from us, for rescuing us, and for taking us by the hand so we can journey safely from this life to the life that is to come.

MATTHEW 11:28-30

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

All of us who are born into this world have our share of burdens, troubles, worries, struggles, some more than others. It is easy to get disheartened, depressed, sad, anxious, fearful, helpless, and crushed by the weight of life's woes.

There are times when we experience unbearable grief and the agony seems too great to bear. The loss of a child, a spouse, a parent, a loved one, or grave sickness, or born with grave challenges, or becoming gravely challenged through some circumstance or other. The old, those with debilitating illnesses, those who are abandoned, those who are weighed down even further by their emotional responses to the relentless challenges they face daily will, on numerous occasions believe that it is more than they can bear. In these moments may we hear Your gentle invitation:

‘Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.’ Yoked to You, we have Your assurance that our burden will get easier and lighter and we will find rest for our weary body and soul.
