SATURDAY OF WEEK THIRTEEN IN ORDINARY TIME - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord;
I know them, and they follow me. JN 10:27

AMOS 9:11-15

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

Today the prophet Amos speaks words of encouragement and hope to the people of God in exile. He speaks to them of a golden age to come enumerating all the blessings that God has in store for them. In the midst of their sadness they are given hope, something to look forward to and their faith is revived.

Every prophecy ever made in the Old Testament finds its fulfillment and completion in You, my Lord and my God. In You we are saved and are given all we need in our exile, in this valley of tears, as we make our pilgrim journey from this life to the Kingdom of God.

The tottering hut of David is restored with Peter as the Rock and You its Cornerstone. In the inexhaustible spiritual treasury of Holy Mother Church, we find flowing from her sanctuary new wine, honey sweeter than honey in the comb, and the finest wheat. Her Sacraments renew us, strengthen us, and enable us to rise on eagles wings to the heights of Mt. Zion. All who accept Your invitation will never be hungry of thirsty again:

“Let anyone who is thirsty
come to me; and let the one who
believes in me drink, for the Scripture
says: Out of the believer’s heart shall
flow rivers of living water.”

God dwells in His fullness in the sanctuary of our hearts and the Holy Spirit makes our body His holy temple. Our churches may be closed and the Holy Eucharist withheld from us but as members of Your Body we continue to be sustained by Your life-giving Spirit in us.

PSALM 85:9, 11-14

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

It is very easy to suffer from spiritual myopia when we look at the Church and the world today. But we must remember that there is always a faithful remnant. It is they who keep the Church alive by their unwavering faith in You, love for You, and wholehearted service for love of You. It is these special friends who remain hidden in You and by their humility, obedience, and utter fidelity to You and Your Word, they sustain the weaker members of Your Body.

For their sake, You will show us mercy, tenderness, and compassion as they plead with You not to look at the depravity of the world but to fix Your gaze on them and their whole-hearted devotion to God and His Church.

You will hear  their incessant cries of mercy and for their sake You will cause hearts to return to You in sorrow and contrition, Your Church will flourish and bear an abundance of good fruit that will last.

MATTHEW 9:14-17

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

You are the Bridegroom and Your Church is Your Bride. In these difficult times keep us safe in Your love. Keep Your shepherds holy and alert to guard against the attacks of roaring lions and ravenous wolves who prowl night and day seeking to attack, steal, and devour Your sheep.

Your Church is suffering because we, her members, are unable to gather as a community to celebrate Holy Mass and offer You praise, worship, and thanksgiving. This is our fast for we are deprived of the Eucharistic meal.

We thank You for this time of fasting from the Eucharist that is giving us an opportunity to reflect on the treasures of our Church, the Sacraments, and for creating in us a great hunger and thirst for them. Thank You for drawing us ever closer to one another as our own homes now become little churches where we are all united in prayer. Thank You for all the graces You bestow on us through every Spiritual Communion we make and for generously blessing us and uniting us in faith, hope, love, and longing for You in the Holy Eucharist.
