EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Christ, our paschal lamb, has been sacrificed;
let us then feast with joy in the Lord. 1COR 5:7B-8a

ACTS 10:34A, 37-43

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

St. Peter gives us a summary of how we are to evangelize. Each one baptized into Your Body is chosen by God to be a witness to You and to all that the Father has revealed to His children through You, His only Beloved Son. This is why over and His voice was heard at different stages in Your earthly life, "Listen to him."

PSALM 118:2-3, 16-17, 22-23

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

This is the day, this is the new Sabbath, the first day of the week for on this day, the old has gone and the wonderful new thing You have done is here. This is the day to rejoice, to celebrate and be glad for we have a Savior, a Redeemer, a Deliverer, a Brother, a Friend, a new Adam who is a Bridegroom and who has redeemed and sanctified His Bride.

Behold! You have made all things new.

COLOSSIANS 3:1-4

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

St. Paul reminds us that the time for mucking about in the trough of sin and evil has passed. We now have a Victor who has crushed and vanquished the Foe. Death and slavery to sin no longer have power over us. Having shared in our death You now give us a share in Your life in the Resurrection. We are now members of Your Body and Your life flows to us. No longer are we orphans we have God as our Father since we are Your adopted brothers and sisters. We long for the day when You will come again in glory and establish a new heaven and a new earth. Maranatha, Lord Jesus! Maranatha!

JOHN 20:1-9

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

The first witness who saw You after Your Resurrection was a woman, Mary of Magdala whom You cleansed of many demons. This was her reward for her faithful discipleship. She was the one entrusted to take this glorious news to the rest of the disciples. Her infectious joy in seeing You and in proclaiming to the rest that You had risen from the dead must be our joy too as Your witnesses.

John and Peter ran all the way to the tomb, John reached first but out of deference to Peter, the Apostle chosen by You as the principal shepherd, he waited for Peter to enter first. They saw the empty tomb. They observed how the burial cloths lay and John believed.

As for the rest, including Peter, they would only truly believe when You appeared to them and they saw You, for as John concludes in this passage, "... they did not yet understand the Scripture."

So often, we too are obtuse, hard-hearted and slow to believe despite all the proofs we receive of Your love for us.

Remove the heart of stone in me Beloved, and give me a heart of flesh. Amen.
