DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Behold, our Lord shall come with power;
he will enlighten the eyes of his servants.

ISAIAH 11:1-10
PSALM 72:1-2, 7-8, 12-13, 17
LUKE 10:21-24

ISAIAH 11:1-10

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

We who believe in the Truth are truly blessed. There is no greater joy than this that we belong to the family of God. You are a God who saves. The world is a glorious place because You created it and all that You have made is good. Evil is alive and is thriving but this is also true, the Love of God is greater than the powers of darkness.

God created us and He will not abandon us this is why He sent us a Savior of whom the prophet Isaiah so eloquently says,

Not by appearance shall he judge,
nor by hearsay shall he decide,
But he shall judge the poor with justice,
and decide aright for the land's afflicted.
He shall strike the ruthless with the rod of his mouth,
and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked.
Justice shall be the band around his waist,
and faithfulness a belt upon his hips.

In a world that is so often darkened by the cruelty and wickedness of men and women, we have the Word of God that shines the light of hope. A hope that kindles a joyous waiting for the time when You will return to us in triumph to establish Your rule and dominion over the world that God created for You and for Your glory.

On that day,
The root of Jesse,
set up as a signal for the nations,
The Gentiles shall seek out,
for his dwelling shall be glorious.

PSALM 72:1-2, 7-8, 12-13, 17

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

There is no justice for the poor, the marginalized, the outcast, the invisible, the wounded, the downtrodden, the lost, and the abandoned of this world. For too many, justice is a word without meaning. But this is not what You intended, You expect us to reach out to those on the periphery as our brothers and sisters and to do what we can to help. Too often though, we prefer to look the other way because we either do not want to become involved or believe we can do nothing anyway. This is no excuse and we will be held accountable for our indifference because we are all created in the image and likeness of God and we must recognize You in our neighbor.

Today the psalmist reminds us that even though we withhold justice from the poor,  God has appointed You the Just Judge and in You, justice and peace will flourish forever.

He shall rescue the poor when he cries out,
and the afflicted when he has no one to help him.
He shall have pity for the lowly and the poor;
the lives of the poor he shall save.

LUKE 10:21-24

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

The Life of the Spirit is not for the fainthearted but for those who recognize that they can do nothing on their own. They abandon themselves entirely to the power of the Spirit and permit Him to have complete authority over their lives. They rely on Him to do in and through them what they know they cannot do by themselves.

This is exactly what You did Beloved when You sent out Your disciples two by two commanding them to take nothing with them except the clothes they wore, a stick in their hand, and sandals on their feet. You filled them with the Holy Spirit and they returned rejoicing for they witnessed the power of God at work through them.

It takes great humility and an all-consuming hunger to do Your will in all things, to know with certainty that without You and Your Spirit we can do nothing, and to surrender our whole being completely to the Holy Spirit to do whatever He desires with us. It is then that heaven rejoices because what is hidden to those of the world is revealed to the childlike and humble of heart.
