Genesis 22:1B-19

My Love, Beloved of my soul,

Most of us when put to the test like Abraham was, fail miserably. I know I have failed often and I also know that I am frail and will keep failing. Grant me the grace to always say, "Here I am," as Abraham did when You called him.

From the very beginning, we see a foreshadowing of the Cross and the Sacrifice that was to redeem the world. We see a father who is prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice in giving up his only son in obedience to God's will.

So many of us lose our child or children in one way or the other and as parents, we have to suffer the grief and the pain of our loss our whole lives. So many of us do it badly. So many of us find it hard to accept the suffering that accompanies the cross. So many find it hard even impossible to accept it as God's will and turn away from Him in anger unaware that He is the only one that can console us in our grief. So many blame God for all the misery and anguish in the world forgetting all the while what God has done for us in giving up His only Son in a death so horrific it is beyond our understanding. Why? Because by identifying so completely with the sin and misery of the world we know the depths of God's incomprehensible love for us in the ultimate Sacrifice. God did provide the Lamb of Sacrifice in You, my Beloved.

And because You were humble and obedient even unto death, death on the Cross we receive a share in Your inheritance of eternal life in the Kingdom of God.
