DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS
My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord;
I know them, and they follow me. Jn 10:27
1 Corinthians 5:1-8, Psalm 5:5-7, 12, Luke 6:6-11
1 Corinthians 5:1-8
My Love, Beloved of my soul,
Each generation tends to believe that the sins that corrupt both body and spirit are peculiar to their time. It is not so for history reveals that the sins in every age are as old as time. People may speak and dress differently but the wickedness and concupiscence to sin wear the same garb. The godless like to flatter themselves that they have reached new levels of depravity but it is not so; one has only to read Sacred Scripture to see that this is not true.
Ever since the fall of Adam and Eve who alienated themselves from God, their progeny and the generations that followed, man has sinned. St. Paul reminds us that a little evil can taint the entire person, an entire community, the entire Church. He calls us to be vigilant and to expel those that sin gravely and are a source of scandal until they repent. Beloved, we are saved, the Church has triumphed through the Sacrifice of the Paschal Lamb, this is why we must live redeemed lives in sincerity and truth. Help us, Lord.
Psalm 5:5-7, 12
My Love, Beloved of my soul,
There is plenty of wailing and gnashing of teeth right now because wickedness has been found residing comfortably in the very highest echelons of power and has seeped through the Body of Christ. There is righteous indignation, the wicked are being called to accountability. All this is right and as it should be Beloved yet, we must also trust You. You will lead the faithful in Your justice. You will ensure that the arrogant will not remain upright. You will ensure that the evildoers will be rooted out.
All who take refuge in You, You will protect and keep safe in Your Holy Name. Thank You.
Luke 6:6-11
My Love, Beloved of my soul,
There are so many in the Church just like the scribes and the Pharisees. It would seem that their only purpose is to point accusing fingers and try to bring her down. So it was that day when You were in the synagogue on a sabbath. The law of Moses prescribed that no work was to be done and that day and the hair-splitting Pharisees and scribes watched You expectantly knowing that You would heal the man with the withered hand who was in their midst even though it was the sabbath. You knew exactly what they were thinking. You invited the man to come and stand before everyone and said:
"I ask you, is it lawful to do good on the sabbath
rather than to do evil,
to save life rather than to destroy it?"
Without waiting for their response You answered them by healing the man:
"Stretch out your hand."
He did so and his hand was restored.
One would imagine that they would rejoice that a man was healed. Not so. The Gospel states:
But they became enraged
and discussed together what they might do to Jesus.
Today, Beloved, this miracle reminds us that even the withered members of Your Body, the Church, You can heal and restore. We trust You to watch over Your Bride and to protect and heal her wounded members.
