Matthew 5:17-19
1 Kings 18:20-39
Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,
Today's reading taken from the Book of Kings speaks about the one, true God, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. This God who sent You into the world to establish the Church where He will dwell in fullness.
Every other form of worship whether by people of other faiths or other denominations of Christians will never experience what we who are formed in the womb of Holy Mother Church will experience. They will not experience God as we do. We get to eat Your Body and drink Your Blood at every celebration of the Holy Eucharistic. Here we offer to the Father the only acceptable Sacrifice offered on Calvary. Here we stand at the foot of the Cross from which Your precious Blood and Water flowed from Your pierced side.
We fall before You in adoration and so will all people in every nation, of every race, and of every language, bow before You and say,
"The LORD is God! The LORD is God!"
Psalm 16:1-2, 4-5, 8, 11
Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,
Once again, this time the psalmist speaks of taking refuge in You because only in You are we safe from the Enemy. Our hope is in You and in no other, nor do we place our hope in any creature or created thing.
Those who worship other gods continue to hunger, thirst, and experience poverty of spirit for they are not fed by the Son of God Himself. From You flow streams of life-giving water. We drink and our thirst is quenched. We have received Your Holy Spirit - He makes His home in us and He will lead us to the Kingdom where we will praise You joyfully for all eternity.
Matthew 5:17-19
Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,
Every spiritual experience mentioned in the Old Testament that establishes the relationship between God and human beings has significance. Nothing is random, nothing is extraneous to this relationship. It all is a foreshadow of the great truths that will be revealed.
In the Old, God is hidden, He is veiled. In the New, God is revealed, we see Him, we taste Him, we touch Him. He is the Word by which we live, we move, we have our being.
This is why You say,
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away,
not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter
will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.
Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so
will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven.
But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments
will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven."
The more we are familiar with the Old Testament the greater the light it shed on the New and reveals God's awesome love for us and His desire to be one with His lowly, unworthy creatures. He gives us all of Himself so we will never know hunger, thirst, or want in the life and in the next we will behold with our eyes what we have only experienced in on earth in faith.
