James 5:1-6, Psalm 49:14-20, Mark 9:41-50

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Receive the word of God, not as the word of men,
but as it truly is, the word of God. 1 Thes 2:13

James 5:1-6, Psalm 49:14-20, Mark 9:41-50

James 5:1-6

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

We live in a world that kowtows before the rich, the influential, the powerful, and the famous. They do little that raises the plight of the poor, rather they exploit them and ride on their backs in order to gain wealth. St. James warns that there will be a time of terrible reckoning for them. They live today as if there are no consequences to what they do. They brush aside all the is divine and refuse to believe that in the end all die and will be judged. It is then that retribution will be terrible but it will be too late.

We are invited to store up for ourselves that which does not corrode or destroy so on the day of judgment when we stand before You we need not tremble with fear but rejoice that at last, we behold You my Beloved, face to face.

Psalm 49:14-20

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

You came to reveal the truths and the values of the Kingdom of God. It is a place where all who know and love You will finally find their resting place. It is to the little ones that You pledge a place will reserved but not for the haughty, the boastful and the proud. Those who trust You, who hide in You, who know that of themselves can do nothing, it is they who will be blessed in eternity when they behold the beatific vision. To the little ones is promised and assured a share in Your glory.

Mark 9:41-50

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

We are called to be of service to Your anointed, our Bishops and our priests. Theirs is a hard life often made even more difficult by the demands made on them constantly and the barrage of criticism that they face. The spend themselves for Your sake and for the sake of the Gospel and are often lonely and unappreciated.

They are called by You to help us and yet we take them for granted today You remind them and us that if we are kind and helpful and give them the honor they have a right to expect, You will not forget it. In serving them, in loving them, in being kind to them we are being kind to You.

Here is another warning for the world Beloved. The world is bending over to strip Your littlest one of all innocence. They are being systematically and purposefully robbed of all purity and they are made caricatures of adults while still babes. All those in the world who use their influence and power to enforce evil laws robbing children of their right to be children and causing them to sin are warned that it would be better for them to drown themselves in the sea.

We have to be vigilant over the members of our body and if we find that there is a tendency in us that leads us to sin it would be better for us to do violence against ourselves rather than have our whole body cast into the flames of hell that never go out and the worms that do not die.

We are called to be the salt of the earth that flavors the world with the Truth revealed by You. If we lose our savor we become worthless. What is the remedy to restore the flavor of God in us? Staying close to the Church and receiving the Sacraments is a sure way of keeping the salt in us and living in harmony with each other.
