Acts 6:8-15, Psalm 119:23-24, 26-27, 29-30, John 6:22-29

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

One does not live on bread alone
but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.

Mt 4:4B

Acts 6:8-15, Psalm 119:23-24, 26-27, 29-30,
John 6:22-29

Acts 6:8-15

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

What was true of You, what was true of the Apostles and disciples, what was true of every Christian who ever challenged those who lead people astray with lies and half-truths is true to this day. True goodness is a mirror that reflects the evil in those who oppose it.

Stephen, the first martyr to the faith was filled with the Holy Spirit. It is the same Spirit that You promised You would send and it is the very same Spirit that came down so powerfully on the Apostles and disciples at Pentecost. The goodness, the purity, the love of God that shone on his face, the words of truth that he spoke in the face of his adversaries, was from the Holy Spirit. You assure Your disciples not to be afraid when they were dragged before the courts and not to worry about the words they would speak the Holy Spirit Himself would provide the words necessary.

There is nothing to use against the innocent to condemn them and so they are slandered, false accusations are raised against them, but the real reason for their martyrdom is because little people are afraid of the extraordinary power they are given from on high to draw many to the truth which is irrefutable. Filled with Satanic anger they will not rest, until, like the devil, they kill, murder, and attempt to destroy the work of God. The blood of martyrs will continue to raise up new Christians.

Psalm 119:23-24, 26-27, 29-30

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

You are Truth and those who follow the Truth hear Your Voice and obey it.

Your Word is Truth and Your Word is Life. Those who read it, meditate on it, live it, are empowered by it. None can refute the Truth. It stands like a beacon that the night cannot put out.

If we keep the two great commandments Beloved, we need never be afraid even when the whole world stands against us. Armed with the Truth we are invincible.

John 6:22-29

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

There is only one Bark of St. Peter and You are in that Bark there is no other. It is You who chose Peter to be Your Vicar on earth and to represent the Invisible Head of the Church. We are creatures, we need to see, we need to hear, we need to touch and being Incarnate, You understand our need for the tangible that points to greater, invisible realities like the Sacraments.

After the miracle of the loaves and fish, the people come looking for You the next day. They were looking for free bread. Once they realized that You had gone across the sea with the disciples they decided to come after You.

The crowds got into the many boats that came from Tiberias crossed the sea and came looking for You and when they found You they said,

“Rabbi, when did you get here?”

Knowing why they were looking for You, You said,

“Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me
not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled. Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him the Father, God, has set his seal.”

They had no clue what You were talking about so they responded, “What can we do to accomplish the works of God?”

And You answered, “This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent.” They didn't believe You then and they certainly did not believe when You were arrested and brought before Pilate. This is the crowd that will later join the Sanhedrin in calling for Your death by Crucifixion.

As long as we are looking for the bread that perishes, as long as we refuse to get into the Boat with Peter at the helm, we will not find eternal life.
