Acts 13:13-25, Psalm 89:2-3, 21-22, 25 & 27,
John 13:16-20

Acts 13:13-25

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

St. Luke gives us a detailed account of Paul's ministry and his journey to different places to preach the Gospel and establish communities of believers. He travelled tirelessly wherever the Holy Spirit led him and did not refuse any opportunity to proclaim the Good News that saves.

Today's Liturgy throws light on one such incident which will give us a glimpse of what his life was like and how he went about spreading the Gospel. One important fact to note is that he did not travel alone but with his companions. It is important that we have a like-minded friend so we can encourage and support each other.

When evangelizing we can take our cue from Paul, he begins by speaking of things his audience is familiar with and leads them step by step through salvation history. How God Himself chose a people and a nation and how He led them from the time of Abraham until John the Baptism who proclaimed Your coming and testified that You were greater than he and that he was too unworthy to even unstrap the sandals on Your feet. We need not be too anxious about the words we use for the Holy Spirit Himself will give power to our speech and it is He who will work in the hearts of those who hear the Good News. The work of conversion is His this takes the burden of results off our shoulders and rests squarely on the Holy Spirit where it truly belongs. All we are called to be is faithful.

Psalm 89:2-3, 21-22, 25 & 27

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

David teaches us to always recall Your favors and give You unending praise and thanks in all circumstances. Not only are we called to recall Your kindness, goodness, and generosity to us but we are to encourage others to do the same, especially our children. From generation to generation we ought to raise up families who will praise You recognizing that it is You who bless us and shower us with Your goodness and mercy.

John 13:16-20

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

We are called to read the Gospels, meditate on it, and live it every day in our lives. We are called to imitate You. You invited us to serve as You did if we are truly Your disciples.

At the Last Supper when You washed the feet of Your disciples You commanded them to do likewise. Humility is an integral part of the work of proclaiming the Good News. Unless we are willing to get down on our knees ready to serve, show kindness, compassion, mercy, and tenderness we will not attract people to You. We are called to image You, to reflect You, to allow You to shine in and through us.

When Jesus had washed the disciples' feet, he said to them:
"Amen, amen, I say to you, no slave is greater than his master
nor any messenger greater than the one who sent him.
If you understand this, blessed are you if you do it.
I am not speaking of all of you.
I know those whom I have chosen.
But so that the Scripture might be fulfilled,
The one who ate my food has raised his heel against me.
From now on I am telling you before it happens,
so that when it happens you may believe that I AM.
Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send
receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me."
