DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS
Easter Sunday - The Resurrection of the Lord
Christ, our paschal lamb, has been sacrificed;
let us then feast with joy in the Lord. 1 Cor:5-7-8
Acts 10:34, 37-43, Psalm 118:1-2, 16-17, 22-23, Colossians 3:1-4, John 20:1-9
Acts 10:34, 37-43
Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,
Peter proclaims to the world who You are and what You have done for all who will believe in You. After You were baptized in the Jordan and were anointed with power from on High, You went about preaching the Good News of our salvation. Great signs accompanied all that You did. Mighty signs that proved that You are God and that God is Your Father.
Filled with the Holy Spirit You revealed that You had power over all creation, over humans, over demons and evil spirits and over death itself. Your enemies who loved themselves and power more than God and the Truth put You to death in a manner that was truly horrendous but You rose from the dead just as You said You would. Peter and those chosen by You were witnesses to Your Resurrected Life. You transformed Peter, the Apostles, and Your disciples from frightened men into powerful witnesses ready to lay down their lives for You and for the Good News of our salvation.
The Prophets spoke of You, the Apostles were witness to all that You said and did during the three years of Your public ministry. They gave their lives to spread the Good News just as You commanded. Today we believe and because we do, we have forgiveness of sins in Your Name. There is no other by which we can be saved.
Psalm 118:1-2, 16-17, 22-23
Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,
The Church exults in joyful praise for indeed we are saved from the jaws of death and from hell. Thank You Beloved for Your Yes to the Father. Thank You Beloved for Your obedience even unto death on the Cross. Thank You for making the sign of shame the greatest symbol of victory. In the Cross is our hope. In the Cross is life. In the Cross there is redemption. In the Cross is forgiveness for our sins.
You are raised from the dead have rendered death impotent for it has not become the gate to new life in You. Truly Beloved, the Stone which the chosen people of God rejected, has become the Cornerstone of the Church and in her who possesses the fullness of Truth, all who believe are saved.
Colossians 3:1-4
Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,
During Lent, You taught Me and gave me understanding about what gives life. I have learned that I must put to death the things that separate me from You. There is a better way, there is a nobler way, there is a higher way by which we make our journey from this life to the Kingdom of Heaven. The choice is mine to make.
I have been raised with You and this is why I have to put to death the old me and I must become one with You. Your life is the life that I have received and it is this new life that I am called to live and bear witness to. Only then, when You appear again in glory, will I too appear in glory with You. What a glorious destination is mine if I desire it and I do.
John 20:1-9
Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,
It speaks volumes that Mother Mary was not with Mary of Magdala. She believed that You are the Resurrection and the Life. She believed because she knew that she bore the Son of God. She knew because she understood Your mission, the salvation of the world.
Despite the fact that You spoke often to all Your disciples including Mary of Magdala, Peter, and John that in three days You would rise from the dead, they had not understood. It was impossible, inconceivable, to their minds and so Mary came early in the morning sorrowing and sad, dejected and downcast, to weep at the tomb.
She saw the stone covering the entrance of the tomb had been rolled away assumed Your Body was taken away and ran to tell Your closest friends Peter and John. They too came running to the tomb to see for themselves. They ought not to have been surprised. They ought to have remembered that You had said in three days You would rise again. But they simply could not wrap their minds around such a thing happening.
They entered the tomb, they found the burial cloths, they believed. But what did they believe? Because the passage ends with the words,
For they did not yet understand the Scripture
that he had to rise from the dead.
They were unable to connect the two - the empty tomb with the words that You had said often, that death could not hold You and in three days You would rise again.
Even today many do not believe if they did then the whole world would follow You.
