1 Samuel 6:1-13

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

You do not wish us to cling to the past but look forward with hope and confidence at the new thing that You are about to do. When we keep looking back regretfully we are bogged down and are unable to make any progress. You desire that once we have accomplished Your will we must move on. If things do not go as planned we must accept that we have done the best we could in the circumstances and forge ahead ready for the next challenge, all the while trusting that You are in control and are leading us on.

You have an awesome plan for our lives and we can trust that with Your help and that of the Holy Spirit You will enable us to accomplish all that God asks of us. Yes, we will fail. Yes, we can be mistaken. But through it all especially through our failures which are just as important as our successes You continue to help us grow. We are constantly learning as new challenges are given to us.

We need not be afraid for You will always inspire us and stay with us. We need to be attuned to Your Voice and to recognize that it is You who prompt us, telling us, "Here is the way, take it."

All though life we have to do as You command. If we obey, if we are docile under the Holy Spirit, if we are humble, You can accomplish much through us as God did with David.

Once Samuel got past his human inclination of looking at the physical attributes but allowed God to direct his focus on the heart, he was able to discern that it was David who was the youngest of all Jesse's sons whom He had chosen to be be king of Israel. Grant that I too Beloved, may allow the Holy Spirit to guide and direct me and I will avoid the temptation to make foolish choices.

Psalm 89:20-22, 27-28

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

May Your hand be ever over me as it was with David. He was chosen by God to lead His people and unite them. David was a king whose heart belonged completely to God. Yes, he sinned, but he repented and God was with him making him the most renowned and successful king of his time.

Because David was a king after the heart and mind of God one of his descendants was chosen to bring forth the Savior of the world, the Messiah who would redeem His people. For all his faults David loved God passionately as we can see in the psalms.

Together with David, my Beloved, I too say of the triune God,  'You are my Father, my God, the Rock, my savior.'

Mark 2:23-28

Dear Lord, Beloved of my soul,

Help me never to get so caught up with externals that I forget to be truly compassionate, to be empathetic, to be kind and understanding. It is so easy to be self-righteous and judgmental and if I am not careful, it is quite possible that I will be exactly like the Pharisees who watched You carefully not because they found You exemplary in every way, but because they were focused on criticizing You.

Each and every time You crushed them with a fitting response, and yet they never gave up. They did not feel embarrassed that You called them out time and time again for their hypocrisies but they never learned. They did not want to see and that is why they remained blind and deaf to the time of Your visitation.

Grant, Beloved that I may always err on the side of goodness, kindness, gentleness, and mercy.
