DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me;
he has sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor. Lk 4:18

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, Psalm 96:1, 3-511-13, Luke 4:16-30

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

I want to thank You for the beautiful words of consolation that You speak through Paul about grief and grieving. Nothing is so painful as losing someone we love dearly to death the loss leaves an aching void. Although we suffer and are inconsolable we are reminded that as Christians we ought not to grieve as those who do not believe in the resurrection. You entered into our death in order that we may enter into Your Life. You rose from the death and we too who must die once, will rise again.

St. Paul assures us that we can believe this truth on Your word.  When You come down from heaven in glory, at Your command all who  have died in You will rise first and those alive at the time of Your coming will also be united with them to be taken up with You to share Your glory forever. Death is not the end of life but the beginning of new life in union with You forever. This is the hope and the consolation of all who believe in You and this is why our grief ought to be quite unlike those who do not know You and do not believe in You.

Psalm 96:1, 3-511-13

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

While it is true we live in the valley of tears, where there is sorrow, sickness, disappointment, loss, sin and death yet we are people who sing to the Lord always. We have been assured that those who have not seen but yet believe are blessed and we believe. You have done wondrous deed. You lay down Your life in order that we may live. You give us hope and no matter how difficult our present life may be we must count it all joy, for in the hereafter our reward will be great. All creation rightly praises You and we who are part of Your creation must join in the great and glorious hymns of praise and thanksgiving for You our God are a great God and worthy of praise.  We long for the day of Your coming when You will judge the world and rule Your people as King of Kings and Lord of Lords with love forever.

Luke 4:16-30

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

We desire a god made according to our image and likeness we do not want to go through the painful process of being molded and shaped into Your image and likeness. We want to hear a gospel that panders to our soft, willful way of living that makes no demands of us but You will not do so. You love us too much to allow us to believe lies that will eventually lead to our destruction. You are not afraid to tell us the truth about ourselves and You insist that we face it squarely whether it makes us uncomfortable or not, whether we like it or not.

You claimed the prophecy of Isaiah as You read the words from Scripture in Your hometown and the people were amazed. However, You were not afraid to shake them from their complacency when You said that it was those who were outside the Covenant whom God chose to bless like the widow in Zarephath, and the Syrian Naaman. Most people do not want to hear the truth and the  people in Nazareth were no different, they were filled with anger and would have killed You - but they had no power over You and You calmly walked away from them.

Lord God, give me a humble and contrite heart always.
