1 John 2:3-11, Psalm 96:1-3, 5-6, Luke 2:22-35

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

A light of revelation to the Gentiles
and glory for your people Israel.

1 John 2:3-11, Psalm 96:1-3, 5-6, Luke 2:22-35

1 John 2:3-11

My soul's beloved, to know You is to know that You are the Eternal Word of God, the Word of God is the embodiment of Truth if I say I know You then I must be obedient to Your Word and keep Your commandments for they are the Way to the Father who is love. You make visible the Love of the Father and we have union with Him through You. True union with the Father is possible only through You His Son whom He sent into the world that we may come to know Him who is love. You are the Son of the God of Love, Your Spirit is the Spirit of Love and of Truth and we are united to the Father and to His Spirit through You there is no other way to be One with the Father except You abide in us and we abide in You.

Sin separates and darkness descends on those who refuse to walk in the Way of Truth which is illumined by the Light of the world. To walk in the light I must walk in love.  I must love because I have first been loved by You and I am called to be like You and to imitate You so Your Spirit may always remain in me.

Psalm 96:1-3, 5-6

My soul's beloved, truly all who belong to You have a new song in our hearts. Songs of praise and thanksgiving for all that God has done for us and how He has saved us in You. Our joy should kindle in us a burning zeal to tell the whole world of how much God has loved us sending His own Son into the world to become like us and to show us how to find our way back to Him.

You continue to bless us, we continue to see Your glory as You minister to us in the Sacraments. Keep our eyes open so we may recognize You in those we encounter every day.

Luke 2:22-35

My soul's beloved, Mary's virginal womb was opened when the descent of the Holy Spirit descended upon her and the power of the Most High overshadowing her. Love became incarnate and took flesh from Mary's flesh. Love made flesh was nourished as all babes in the womb are nourished. Mary's body and blood sustained the God of Life in her body for nine whole months. Sinless from the moment of her conception in order to fulfill the awesome plan of God, she became the first Sanctuary, the first Tabernacle, the first Holy of Holies where God dwelt in fullness. God from God, Light from Light, True God from True God begotten not made One with the Father and through Him all things were made. This young virgin, hidden from the world, bloomed unseen, unheard. It is in silence so profound that God became Man and from this new Garden of Eden God was born into the world.

Who can see God? Simeon - righteous and devout whose heart was consumed with longing to see the prophecies concerning the Messiah fulfilled, who spent all his days in the temple, to him was made the promise by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death until he laid eyes on the Anointed of the Lord. He saw Mary and Joseph bringing the Babe to be presented and he trembled with excitement for  his eyes looked upon the Promise as Mary place Him in his arms.

My soul's beloved, we too are privileged to have intimate union with You in Holy Communion. There is closer intimacy than this - the intimacy that Mary enjoyed as she carried You is ours for a brief moment in time when we receive You in the Eucharist. Like Simeon, as we come to the evening of our own lives we too can say,

“Lord, now let your servant go in peace;
your word has been fulfilled:
my own eyes have seen the salvation
which you prepared in the sight of every people,
a light to reveal you to the nations
and the glory of your people Israel.”

You bless us each day. You are with us and as Simeon prophesied You continue to be a sign that is contradicted by the world. Keep us faithful my beloved especially when we are called to suffer for Your Sake and for the sake of the Gospel.
